For Dads: Contagion #BlurayElite Review #SP

As a member of Warner Home Video super exclusive Blu Ray Elite team, I get access to some of the greatest movies ever made. My mission is to give you how these movies fit in the life of a Dad.

Movie: Contagion

This is a tough one, I was never a big disease movie fan, it creeps me out too much.  I can still remember being freaked out by monkeys after watching Outbreak. Directed by the king of the super star cast movie genre Stephen Soderbergh, I was actually surprised Soderbergh restrained himself and his style in the movie.  He creates a pretty intense atmosphere of suspense.  Quick synopsis: A disease comes and kills everyone; people freak out. Oh yeah, and bloggers are evil…so beware.

Dad Factor: Medium.  It might be a bit procedural for some dads, while the tension is high, the film does move at a slow pace.

Kid Factor: Low.  No way fit for kids. Think of all the traumas that could be caused by seeing mommies, daddies and children dying.

Date Factor: Undecided.  Yeah it does have date movie staples like Gwenyth Paltrow, Marrion Cotillard and Kate Winslet so you could talk your way into a date movie.  In addition, scary movies increase the cuddle factor; unfortunately, disease movies usually have the opposite effect.

Cool Blu Ray Features: The movie features two documentaries one showing the cast along with celebrity doctor Sanjay Gupta as they discuss global viruses and whether a virus in the movie can really happen to us.  In addition, there is also an episode on how many of the actors got their inspirations from some of the greatest minds in the world of Disease Control.

Bottom Line: While not specifically my cup of tea, Contagion is a solid movie with an all star cast.

Disclosure: I received a copy of the movie on Blu Ray for my participation in the Warner Brothers Blu Ray elite program.  These are my unbiased opinions.
