Full disclosure we were late to the whole Necessary Roughness show phenomenon. Yet when we had a chance to watch the show we were definitely in for the long haul. Necessary Roughness stars Callie Thorne as Dr. Santino, a psychologist with what it seems a complicated professional life as well as complicated personal life. As a head doctor to famous athletes, musicians and celebrities you can understand how thing can really get out of hand.
When D and I had the opportunity to have a night in and watch Necessary Roughness we jumped at the chance. Our next step was getting a babysitter, some snacks and settle in for a good time. Check out some pictures of our night.
During yesterdays episode D and I were live tweeting check out some of our comments by following Divina at @dancinghotdogs and me at @daddyuprising.
The episode we are reviewing is the second of the new season. The football season is starting back up again, and it is time to get the gang back together. After last season shocking shooting we were left to wonder whether TK would recover let along play football. Now that he is back he is forced to prove himself all over again to the GM, who happens to be the owner of the team. Add on top of this the budding sexual relationship for Dr. Santino’s son Ray Jay and Dr. Santino herself with Marc.
He said:
- The show gets off to a great start showcasing roller derby, I honestly can’t believe that it is one of the fastest growing female sport. Overall, I think the show just forgets about the whole roller girl angle, which is disappointing. Most of the focus is on bringing TK back into the fold as well as his growing paranoia.
- It seems the season will be even more turbulent than the last. I can’t wait to see how things shake out.
- I am not the biggest fan of the who owner become GM. This does not bode well, in real life my favorite team the Cowboys are run by their owner and GM, Jerry Jones. I should add that the Cowboys have not won a superbowl in almost 20 years.
- After watching TK it makes me wonder how close his portrayal is to actual receivers. Top athletes obviously have huge egos, but it just seems like he has lost all touch with reality. I guess that is why he needs someone just like Dr. Santino.
She Said:
Eddy covered the majority of the plot and some interesting points. What I was really surprised by the show was the parenting focus and the struggles of a full time working mom. Dr. Santino and her son Ray, throw in her conflicts with her soon to be ex-husband, getting into dating again and just being a woman. I love how the show humanizes this smart, empowered and professional woman but as you watch you realize her struggles are geniune. I love how USA slogan of characters welcome. Dr. Santino is definitely a character.
Eddy and I really enjoyed the show and will be adding it to our DVR docket.
Thank you so much Necessary Roughness for a lovely night in!
Disclosure: We recieved a gift card to pay for babysiting and snacks. This post represents our unbiased opinions.
