(Video) PBS KIDS and iVillage Summer Reading Community Challenge

Every night Eddy or I will read to Rock and X before they go to bed.  We are trying to cultivate a love of reading and learning in our sons and when the summer months hit its difficult for sunny days to not be just about playing.  That is why I was thrilled to team up with PBS KIDS and iVillage for their Summer Reading Community Challenge. The iVillage PBS KIDS Summer Reading Community Challenge is a six-week program designed to help parents build their kids’ literacy skills all summer long.

The program starts on June 18th and you will get daily emails with simple activities and ideas from coaches Angela C. Santomero and Jessica Wollman to fill our summer days with learning and there is a daily chance to win $1,000!

To share the news about this great new program they sent me a package filled with notebooks, stickers, markers, tattoos and a Spanish language books and other goodies to share with Rock’s preschool.

Check out the video of the visit.

It was a perfect sunny day to grab a blanket and read a great story underneath some trees.  I have a brand new respect for his teachers! The kids were so smart, engaging and I had so much fun with them but they were a lot of work!

For more details on the program that runs from June 18th to July 27th and to sign up head over to http://www.ivillage.com/challenges/summerreading/signup and if you are on twitter check out the #SummerReading twitter party Thursday, 6/14 at 9 -10 p.m. with special panelists Jessica Wollman, Vice President, Editorial Products & Digital Programming for Scholastic Media, Liz Zack, Editorial Director, iVillage Pregnancy & Parenting and Alison Morris, Senior Editor of Scholastic Book Clubs.

Disclosure: I am a PBS KIDS Ambassador for 2012 and I received a iVillage and PBS KIDS Summer Reading Community Challenge kit for a party at my son’s preschool.
