Zing Toys Air Storm Series Review

With the heat of summer at its peak it brings back memories of running around our yard or park playing with my friends.  Most of our nights were spent playing games, making makeshift weapons or cobbling together various projectiles to throw or shoot at each other.  I am not going to defend it, as a father I know its dangerous, but boys will always be boys.  Fortunately no one was hurt or had their “eye poked out” but honestly it definitely could have happened.  Fast forward, 20 years later and I now have two wild and rambunctious boys it is up to me to have to look out for their own welfare especially during these carefree days.

While it probably impossible to  keep them from doing the thing I did when I was 10 years old at least I can make it as safe as possible while not  taking away of the fun (or as I like to call it Dadding it up).  That is why was really interested in Zing Toys Air Storm line.  I had been aware of Zing for a while especially making the rounds during various Toy Fairs and Time to Play events.  Yet it wasn’t until this summer that I really got to see what they had to offer until I had the chance to play with some of their Air Storm line.

The thing that I really liked about the Air Storm line, is while it is geared for high impact performance that kids will love and look cool to boot all the projectiles be it ball or arrow are made of soft foam that absorb any potential bodily or property damage.  I have shot pretty much everything in the house and not broken anything…yet and taken a couple of good shots to my bodies that haven’t caused any physical damage.  The toys and arrows themselves are also sturdily built and can handle quite a bit of wear and tear.

Check out the video.

Here are some of the models that we got to try:

Z-X Cross Bow:

This one is definitely too tough for smaller kids to use, mainly due to the fact that it is not easy pulling back the arrow and latching it to the cross bow.  I did like the fact that there is a safty to prevent any untimely discharges.  Kids will like the velocity of the arrows (these ones have suction cup heads) but the design of the arrows keep the impact to a minimum.

Zip Bak Bow:

This one will go as far as how strong you are, in addition, the Zip Bak has two different type of arrow (blunt and suction headed).  The cool unfolding feature is almost reminiscent of some kind of state of the art bow and arrow system and also allows for easy carry and concealment.

Zing Shot:

The Zing Shot is the easiest of the big boy toys that Rock can use.  It takes the basic design of a sling shot and adds a modern twist. The balls themselves are slotted soft foam making it difficult not to be able to shot them off without too much trouble.

Pop Rocketz:

A great introduction to the whole line as well as appropriate for all ages since it really isn’t designed to look like a weapon.  Honestly, this happens to be my personal favorite.
