This month is National Preparedness Month, if you didn’t know this you are more than likely not very prepared for a possible natural disaster. Don’t worry if you are not ready, you are not along, most people don’t believe that a disaster will hit close to home (unless you live in the gulf region). Yet, it is often when you are the least prepared when these things happened. Believe me, living in Connecticut you would never expect to have to be prepared for an earthquake, but in the last year we have had a couple. Even a simple thing like a loss of power doesn’t sound like too bad of a deal, but if you extended it over a couple of days or week it suddenly becomes a huge issue (another thing that happened in Connecticut).
It isn’t only Connecticut that is stressing preparedness, the Office of Emergency Management is asking NYC residents to sign up to Notify NYC, the city’s official emergency notification system, which will send subscribers a text message, email, phone call or tweet of important citywide events as well as localized notification based on their neighborhood. Notifications will be of severe weather, school closures, subway disruptions and traffic advisories all over the city.
