September 16 -22, 2012 Child Passenger Safety Week

With the new school year there are so many meetings, activities and places to go and like me most parents or caregivers are their children’s chauffer or carpool drivers.  I feel like my little men and I are always in our SUV driving to and from preschool, play dates, activities or errands and it can get overwhelming.  As I am driving I am usually concerned about distracted drivers, aggressive drivers, road conditions and other dangers.

But since this week, September 16^th to 22^nd 2012 is Child Passenger Safety Week it’s so important to take a moment to consider these frightening car statics by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration:

• In 2011 car crashes were the number-one killer of children 1 to 12 years old in the United States
• Nearly 75 percent of parents don’t know how to use child safety restraints properly

I know as a parent my children’s safety is my number one priority but with all the product recalls, new state laws, and how quickly technology is advancing in baby and children’s products it can be overwhelming.  You may not even know it but your child may have outgrown his/her car seat without you knowing it!

I am a proud BRITAX Latina advisory board member and when I started working with BRITAX I was inspired how they put the best technology, design, materials and hours of testing into their products because a child’s life was in their hands and only the best would do.

This week I encourage parents, grandparents or anyone entrusted with a child while driving to go to one of the national safety seat check up locations and speak with experts on the how to keep your loved ones safe and sound while you are driving around on an adventure. 

Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012 is National Seat Check Saturday where you can have an expert inspect your car seat and ask any questions or concerns.  I know I will be taking the time on Saturday to get my car seats inspected at our local police department.
