Premiering Monday, October 22nd on Mundo Fox (the new Spanish based channel from Fox) is the new cop drama Corazones Blindados. The show follows the life and death battle of Bogota Columbia’s Metropolitan Police Officer both on duty and at home. Similar to one of my favorite shows The Unit, you are brought into a world where these brave men and women must risk their live on a daily basis in an extremely violent environment while also trying to balance and battle in the own private lives. Corazones Blindados stars Andrés Sandoval as Raúl Ávila and Majida Issa as his partner and possible love interest Diana Ochoa.

Over the past couple of years it seems like Latin shows have garnered (deservingly so) a reputation of being comically over dramatic and sexualized with suave good-looking men with no shirts and beautiful women wearing tight clothing. While this style is hugely popular it is refreshing to see a new show that takes a more realistic approach to drama, especially with a female lead that is used to kicking butt rather than having hers grabbed. On top of that the approach of following the lives of National Police Force of Columbia (NPFC) is an very interesting premise. The show will also feature real life cases from the NPFC. In addition, the show is shot on location in Bogotá, Columbia with many scenes featuring the National School of Operations (CENOP), where many of the special forces of Columbia train. It basically like having Criminal Minds actually shot on location in Quantico, Virginia.

In the past I have avoided Latin shows mainly due to their over the top nature, but with Corozones Blindadoes, I feel there is finally a shows that actually fits in with my own tastes which tend to be more in line with what is shown in U.S. Corazones Blindados at gives me a chance to keep my Spanish sharp while at least being entertained at same time.
