Disclosure: I attended this The Croods and The Moms sponsored event as press. As always my post is my unbiased opinion on the movie.
A few weeks ago my little men and I were guests of The Moms where we not only got to see a prescreening of the new DreamWorks family 3D movie The Croods but we got to meet Belt and hear from Catherine Keener who plays the Ugga the cavewoman mom who is struggling to keep her family together in a changing world.
Check out the trailer.

The Croods tells the story of the world’s first family road trip. When their cave is destroyed, the Crood family must embark on a comedy adventure into strange and spectacular territory in search of a new home. As if patriarch Grug (Nicolas Cage) didn’t already have enough to handle, it goes from bad to worse when they encounter an imaginative nomad named Guy (Ryan Reynolds.) With Guy’s help the Croods conquer their fear of the outside world and discover that they have exactly what it takes to survive – each other.
In the one hour and 32 minute action adventure animated movie directed by Chris Sanders you will laugh, cry and just have fun with The Croods, Guy and Belt. My little men could not stop talking about how funny Grug, Gran (Clovis Leachman), Thunk (Clark Duke) and the wild animals were.
The story is really sweet and had a great message about a family trying to face every challenge life throws at them together with love and strength. They may not always understand each other but they will always support each other. The voice talents were well casted but the true standouts of the film were the 3D effects.
This is was not your usual 3D throw something at you zaniness. The 3D effects gave the new world dimension and depth. The 3D had your heart racing as you were running away from ferocious beasts or hunting for your next meal so I would definitely spring for the additional cost.
One thing to keep in mind if you have younger kids, The Croods, are trying to survive a new world. There are times when literally the ground collapses underneath them or they are almost crushed by debris so under the family fun there is a message of death and how not everyone will survive. One ongoing joke is how Grug hopes Gran does not make the day. So if your loved ones are sensitive to death and loss be aware.
Other than that I totally recommend this for a family movie night! The Croods comes out on March 22 2013. For more clips, fun activities and free app like the one we used to take a picture with Belt click here or get.snapsapp.com
