If you are looking for some wholesome gaming, look no further than Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. This series started all the way back in 2008 and has continued through many different iterations and systems over that time. This time you can enjoy all the fun and mayhem at home and on the go on the Nintendo Switch.
The one thing that has held consistent has been all the fun events and sports that can be played all in one game. The events include familiar favorite including boxing, soccer, swimming, and gymnastics, while new ones include karate, skateboarding, sport climbing, and surfing. All of which take advantage of the unique Joy-Con motion controllers to make each event unique and interesting.
After playing the game the thing that really left me impressed was how detailed each sport was. For example in the javelin throw you see the a Goomba in a cloud measure out the distance of the throw or when you do the triple jump you can actually foul out by stepping over the jumping line. Sports such as karate and fencing use all their original terms and calls during the bouts so you get as authentic experience as possible outside of actually doing the sport.
Some of the events could be whole games unto themselves, such as soccer and basketball. My favorite of the new games has to be surfing or skateboarding which play like the old X-game and Tony Hawk Skating games. From our perspective, just by getting Mario & Sonic you are getting multiple fun multi player games all in one package, not to mention the fact that all of your favorite characters from Mario and Sonic are there too.
