Blog: Cherry Blossom Festival 2009

By Divina

I know it’s been a really busy Spring for The Dancing Hotdogs Crew! Dallas one weekend and D.C. the next.

I have been to D.C. multiple times but never for the famous Cherry Blossom Festival.  The cherry blossom trees were a gift from Japan in 1912 and are positioned around the Tidal Basin.  Every year thousands of visitors flock to the city to not only see the pink and white blossoms but for the different activities that take place in this three week festival.

This past weekend was when the blossoms were at their peak and Saturday was the Cherry Blossom Parade with Grand Marshall and Jeopardy host, Alex Trebek. So I begged Eddy to go with me on a one day trip to our nation’s capital with Baby Boy Thomas, Rosa and little sister, Eliza. in tow.

Though it was a long drive, five hours one way.  (Yeah not fun.)

The trip was wonderful.  Spring was in the air for D.C. and the trip allowed us to get away from the Connecticut rain. The parade was two hours of music, dancing and lots of happy people.  The weather was sunny but windy so no balloons but plenty of floats.  After the parade we walked around the mall and stopped by to see some of the monuments and the White House.

Here is a picture of Alex waving at us.

Eddy, Baby Boy Thomas with the Washington Wizards Basketball team cheerleaders. (Yup, good looking group.)

There is still one weekend left of activities so check out http://nationalcherryblossomfestival.org/cms/index.php?id=390 for details on the fireworks, exhibitions etc.
