(Video) 2013 Dad’s and Grad’s Gift Guide

doubleblack

Disclosure:  We received a review product or subscription for each of the products in this post. This post represent my unbiased opinion. Let’s try to keep it simple.  its is not how much you spend on your dad or grad it what you get with what you spend.  It doesn't have to cost a million dollars as long as it is useful.  I cant tell you how many presents I have gotten and basically thrown away because they had no use.  So here is a quick list of some useful presents: Tie Society Ties are the traditional gift for father’s day, but I would guess that about 90% of those ties hardly get used by the father.  Why waste all that time looking for the “perfect” tie, when you can give your dad the ability to choose for himself.  Tie Society bases its service similar to Netflix and dollarshave.com, members are able to pick a  tie, or bow tie or tie clip (depending on the plan) and Tie Society will ship it right to you in the next few days.  When you get it, you are … [Read more...]

(Video) For Dads: SONOS PLAY:3 Review

Disclosure: Sonos provided us with a Sonos Play: 3 and a Bridge for a 20 day period.  This post is my unbiased opinion. We at Dancing hotdogs love music, but there are only so many places you can bring your IPod or laptop and listen to great music WITH great sound.  Recently, I have been listening to Pandora on my computer at work, I always wondered how I would get that music at home and have it sound as good as it is when I have it my earphone.  I had tried various different internet radios, but the problem has always been that the speakers were too small or not enough. What I wanted was a great internet radio married with a powerful stereo.  I knew that satellite radios had system that could give me what I wanted, but I didn't want to pay the sometimes expensive monthly or yearly subscription fees.  That is why the Sonos PLAY:3 has been a wonderful discovery. Imagine being able to play any internet radio channel or streaming service from Pandora to Sirius XM in … [Read more...]

(Video) Aveeno Active Natural Hair Products

Aveeno Active Naturals Shampoo

Update! This giveaway is closed congrats to Rosanne. Disclaimer: We received the Aveeno prize pack which includes the Aveeno Active Natural Hair Product line to review.  The Giveaway is sponsored by Aveeno. As you can see from our photos in the Dancing Hotdogs website, I have beautiful locks of mahogany colored hair.  I try to keep it short or I would honestly not be able to walk anywhere without being mobbed, it just wouldn’t be fair to Divina and the boys.  With that said, having short hair doesn’t mean I don’t care about it.  Guys usually get a bad rap about our hair either we care too little or too much,  and in both case we tend to put  in too much chemicals from gel to shampoo; no wonder they call it “MALE” pattern baldness.  Fortunately, there are a couple of products that get the job done but take advantage of natural ingredients, like Aveeno Active Naturals Shampoos and conditioners. The Active Natural line provides clean hair along … [Read more...]

For Dads: A WiiU review for Dads

wiiu

Image courtesy of Nintendo  When you are a dad, time seems to have a habit of flying.  One moment you are waking up at 6 in the morning to go to work, the next you are setting your alarm clock to wake back up at six.  In those blessed few moments before I go to sleep I wonder where my day went. I can remember the times where there seemed too many hours in the day, and almost all of it was taken doing stuff I wanted to do.  Not to say that I regret the things that I am doing now; being a husband and dad, but those responsibility roles seem to sap up all the time I have.  While I don’t normally speak for D, I am pretty sure that she agrees with me. Now you may be wondering how this applies to Nintendo’s latest video game system.   Then let me explain; the key is being able to fit in those “me” moments with the “we” moments.  For those of you that like to play video games the WiiU is the first console to allow you to be able to do that.  Not only can you play … [Read more...]

For Dads: Marvel Avengers: Battle for Earth Kinect Review

Avengers Battle for Earth

It has almost become cliché to say that serious games on the Kinect are far and few between.  It becomes even rarer to see a fighting game on any motion based game system be more than a boring exercise of flaying around and frustration.  While Marvel Avengers Battle for Earth isn’t perfect, it has been the most enjoyable and exciting game to recently come out on the Kinect. Developed by Ubisoft Quebec, Marvel Avengers Battle for Earth provides a game that both families and hardcore gamers can at least enjoy together.  Based on the comic book story line of the Secret Invasion, where a group of aliens basically play “body snatchers” with marvel’s stable of superheroes.  No one knows who the real heroes are and who are fakes, resulting in epic battle between many of the legendary heroes. The game has 8 game modes: Campaign- This consist of over 40 battles with cinematics retelling the Secret Invasion story. Arcade- players must defeat all the other characters in … [Read more...]

For Dads: Auvio Stereo Wireless Headphones Review

Auvio Headphones

photo courtesy of Radioshack.com Exclusive to Radio Shack, the Auvio stereo wireless headphone gives you access to your favorite entertainment without having to bug the rest of your family.  Over the last couple of years I have started collecting my favorite music on vinyl.  Since most of my tastes in music run in the decades when vinyl was popular I have been having a great time picking up records of all bands that I love to listen on my IPod.  The thing is my record player is located in the basement, therefore, If I want to listen to a record I have to be down there to do it.  The problem is that I can’t stay in the basement the whole day, there is a ton of stuff that needs to be done at the house and sitting on a couch listening to music isn’t one of them. Therefore it is great having the ability to move around the house, without being tethered to the stereo either by a traditional set of headphone or just having to be near the speakers.  The great thing is that the … [Read more...]

For Dads: Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter DVD review

Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter

Image courtesy of 20th Century Fox Arriving in stores on DVD, Blu-Ray and Blue-Ray 3D is Abraham Lincoln:Vampire Hunter.  Obviously from the title you can tell what this movie is about.  Imagine a world with Vampires and the only person who can stop them is the 16th president of the United States of America.  Obviously there is a lot more story to it than this, but the basic jist is that good Old Abe was probably packing a small axe in his famous black hat.  Following the life of the president from his childhood all the way through to his assassination, I am fairly certain that you wont mistake this movie from the one being made by Steven Speilberg.  With that said, I doubt Spielberg’s Licoln will be spinning an axe around chopping vampires in half.  So in my mind, it’s a give and take. Honestly, there were two reason why I wanted to see this movie: 1) The director Timur Bekmambetov.  Mr. Bekmambetov is a master of action movie, directing one of the more innotive … [Read more...]

(Video) For Dads: Samsung Galaxy S3 Review

Samsung G3S

Image courtesy of Samsung It has gotten to the point that by the time you get a new phone with all the latest operating system and functions, you find out that something else just came on the market to make your phone look like a brick.  That is why it is so surprising to see Samsung Galaxy S3 (GS3) continue strong over the last couple of months even with the introduction of some heavy hitters like the iPhone 5. A fast processor, large and remarkably clear OLED  screen and thin body can only get you so far.  Check out my video.  Soon enough everyone else will have the same things. Now the only way to differentiate yourself is to have some thing more. Key to this was the slew of great functions included with the GS3 right out of the box.  Some of my favorites include: 1)S Voice- similar to Apple’s SIRI the S voice can recognize up to 8 different languages and allows you to control 20 different phone functions. 2)Andriod v4.04 –now upgradable to the … [Read more...]

For Dads: A Dolphin’s Tale #BlurayElite Review #SP

Dolphins tale

As a member of Warner Home Video super exclusive Blu-Ray Elite team, I get access to some of the greatest movies ever made. My mission is to give you how these movies fit in the life of a Dad. Movie: A Dolphin’s Tale Based on the true story of Winter, an injured dolphin is saved by a boy and which in turn ultimately saves the Animal Hospital that nursed her to heath as well as touch the lives of the families that saved her.  While there are some differences between the movie and in real life, after consulting Wikipedia I found that the differences are pretty negligible, which is pretty rare.  In most cases, it seems like film studios tend to sugar up the stories to make them more interesting to audiences.  Ultimately, it ends up that the story is so distorted that other than the title they have nothing in relation to the actual real life stories that spawned the film.  It is pretty crazy that A Dolphin’s Tale didn’t need major modification considering all the things … [Read more...]
