Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps Movie Review

wall_street_money_never_sleeps

By Eddy Gleaned from the pages of the Wall Street Journal as well as likely the gossip columns and "real truth" website, Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps attempts to open our eyes to the greed and corruption that led to our current economic situation.  Of course, much of the film is certainly slanted to villanize the stock brokers, firms and even the U.S. Government that leveraged heavily on insurance and home values that eventually collapsed the market, I found myself feeling like I have already seen this movie play out on the small screen. Current T.V. and news already spins on a 24hr cycle and the ubiquitous nature of the internet no longer leaves anything to the imagination.   The first Wall Street opened our eyes to a world of deal making, trading and materialistic values that essentially symbolized the entire decade weather you were on Wall St. or not. We were given a view into a world that was not yet known.   You felt as if you were getting a view of … [Read more...]

Dora’s Big Birthday Adventure Video Game Review

doras-big-birthday-adventure-video-game

By Divina If you have a toddler you already know Dora the Explorer celebrated her birthday on August 15th with a big birthday bash and now you and the family can join in the party fun with her new Nintendo DS game Dora's Big Birthday Adventure . The video game uses all the same voice talents of the popular show and follows the same story line as the special with Dora and Boots being stuck in Wizzle World and without your help she will miss her birthday celebration with her family.  Dora and Boots have been entertaining children for over 10 years and this game draws on everything that has made the show a total success.  Dora and Boots must use Map and their English and Spanish skills to answer questions and solve puzzles to make it home in time for the fun.  The game is bright and colorful and rated E for everyone but ideal for three to six year olds.  It's so age appropriate and the games are fun.  I loved how I could tickle animals, ride a unicorn, battle sea snakes, … [Read more...]

Step it Up 3D Movie Review

step-up-3d-poster-full-2-4-10-kc1

By Eddy Guilty pleasures come in many forms.  No one can really say why we enjoy our guilty pleasure, but we can readily agree on one thing, guilty pleasures are things that we would rather keep to ourselves rather than share with the rest of the world such as guys who where clogs or watching children's shows like iCarly or being big fans of Bring It On: All or Nothing   Not that I can judge anyone myself, since I have my fair share.  One such guilty pleasure that I will reveal right now is our family's obsession with the show So You Think You Can Dance.  Ever since we caught the show in its 3rd season, we have been DVRing it ever since.  It gotten to a point that even Babyboy busts out a couple of moves, it is also directly responsible for his penchant to drop on all fours and attempt to break dance whenever there is music.  Of course, the natural leap from TV dancing is to movie dancing (???), however it happened, D and I found ourselves watching the Step Up series.  … [Read more...]

Disney’s: Club Penguin – Herbert’s Revenge Video Game Review

club-penguin

By Rosa Club Penguin - Herbert's Revenge is rated E for everyone for the Nintendo DS.  You are a part of The Elite Penguin Force decoding puzzles to get to the next level.  I am a fan of testing the brain and solving puzzles but this game was very hard for me.  I couldn't even get to level 2 because I got frustrated and didn't want to look online for cheat sheets. *HELP* This is the first time that I tried out the Penguins world and as you can tell, difficult for me.  I did enjoy the characters though, they were definitely very cute!  You can play this game with another player who has a Nintendo DS as well or go online for more games and ways to get more points.  I would recommend this game to people who enjoy testing the brain and who don't get very frustrated.  Online there are lots of tips and advice as to how to solve the puzzles but since I am stubborn, I wanted to figure out the puzzles on my own. Club Penguin - Herbert's Revenge for the Nintendo DS retails for … [Read more...]

The Expendables Movie Review

expendables_poster-721x10241

By Eddy If it were 1988, it is likely that The Expendables would have been a ridiculously huge hit...I mean Avatar huge!  With stars like Sylvester Stallone, Mickey Rourke, Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger, the latter two only making cameos, the movie already would have been guaranteed to top the box office.  Add on top of that Dolph Lundgren and Jet Li rounded out by tough looking men like Jason Statham, Terry Crews, Randy Couture, and Steve Austin and you would have all the makings of something pretty special. Unfortunately, for us and them it is 22 year later.  Most of the afore mentioned actors are now or soon will be past their prime, but that is what The Expendables is all about: these guys have reached their Lt. Murtagh point or the "I'm too old for this sh*t" stage of their career both in reality and in the film and we get to see how they handle it, which is to say watch them take out their sadness by decapitating some nameless Latin soldier. But even … [Read more...]

The Other Guys Movie Review

the-other-guys-movie-poster

By Eddy The Other Guys star Will Farrell and Marky Mark as a team of detective in the NYC police department.  They are over shadowed by the huge hero and star power of the current heroes of the department The Rock and Samuel Jackson.  When something puts them out of action, it is up to the other guys to fight to fill the void.  Unfortunately, Farrell just transferred from the police department accounting department and Marky Mark was once a promising rising star whose one mistake has haunted him for years after.  Filling out the rest of the cast is Eva Mendes as well as a couple of comedic actors that I recognize but could never remember their names. The movie basically moves from one joke to another and some of them are hit or miss.  I will say though that there are more hits than misses and a couple had me tearing up from laughing.  The jokes are not raunchy nor are they overly critical.  It seems like they really tried to take the middle route and try to reach the … [Read more...]

Toy Story 3: The Video Game Review

toy_story_3_ps3_box_art_640

By Eddy The great thing about video games is that you actually take part in the story and not just sit on the sidelines as a bystander.  The great potential of video games based on movies, is that you are transported to the very scenes and moments in the movie and are able to participate.  Unfortunately, due to amount of time movies are in theatres and in the public's consciousness it leaves very little time to develop a well made video game for everyone to play.  Considering the number of movie based video games there are out there, it would not be a stretch to say that there are an handful that are actually good. The thing that Toy Story 3 has going for it, was the fact that the video game was in development for 2 years before the game was released, which is practically a lifetime. As a result, we are left with a game that has some surprising depth to it and is fun for adults as well as kids.  Be forewarned, do not play the game if you haven't seen the movie, as it follows … [Read more...]

Inception Movie Review

inception_movie_poster

By Eddy It isn't often that a movie literally has me at the edge of my seat the way that Inception definitely had me.  Many have already compared it to the Matrix in the sense of how it blurs the line between what is real and what isn't and much like the Matrix we learn that the answer is all in our minds.  As long as we believe it is real then that is what it is. Inception 's plot has gotten enough play in the media that I doubt that there is anyone that doesn't more or less know what occurs in the film.  But for those few of you that remain in the dark, I will relate a bit of the plot. Leo DiCaprio and the rest of his crew are thieves, nothing special so far...it is the manner at which they steal that is the mindbender.  They are experts at breaking into people's mind and stealing information all from the constructs of their victim's dreams.  They are able bring the marks into their own dreams and manipulate the world in order to infiltrate and break into their most … [Read more...]

Salt Movie Review

angelina-jolie-salt-poster

By Eddy I think that I might be a bit misogynistic.  Well at least when it comes to action movies.  For some reason I just can't get into an action movie when the lead is a girl.  I am not sure why, it's not like I don't like to see girls in action movie (this might have to do with the increased possibility of nudity from said girl). Its just when the crap hits the fan, the women (I probably shouldn't say "girls") just looks fake.  They don't really look like they can get the job done.  Maybe it feels like they lose a bit of their femininity put in the action situation (or maybe pampered Hollywood actresses just can't be bad asses), maybe I fancy myself a prince charming and expect women to always be the damsel in distress  and not the other way around.  Don't get me wrong, there are definite exceptions like Uma Thurman in Kill Bill, but in general it ends up feeling more like the Charlie's Angels movies. Which brings me to Salt , for the most part Angelina … [Read more...]

The Sorcerer’s Apprentice Movie Review

the-sorcerers-apprentice-movie-poster

By Eddy I guess so much can be expected from a Mickey Mouse clip with a bunch of brooms and music, or for those more learned readers a poem by Goethe (none the less it all the same premise).  Having said that, you are probably better watching Fantasia or digging up the poem once again instead of wasting your cash on this movie and I only spent $4.50. The Sorcerer's Apprentice is not funny enough to be a good kid's movie and not smart enough for adults.  So where does that leave us?  Well, I can tell you where it leaves this film...with a lot of empty seats. The plot is as follows: Nic Cage is one of Merlin's three apprentices who help him fight against the ultimate evil in the Sorceress Morgana.  The three apprentices consist of Cage, Alfred Molina, and Monica Belluci. Of course, one of the apprentices' ends up betraying the others and helps Morgana destroy Merlin, but not before she is captured and trapped. Fast forward to present times where Cage is searching for the … [Read more...]
