Immortals Blu-Ray DVD Review

immortals DH

For pure entertainment value Immortals Blu-Ray DVD fits the bill.  The movie is huge and bombastic and relies on the type of visuals that just pop on your brand new HD TV screen.  For the most part, the story falls in the same trap that Clash of the Titans does, investing more in the visual than with the premise.  Though that isn’t a bad thing in this case, sometimes  you want to read a beach book and not War and Peace if  you get my meaning.  The movie provides you with all the fighting/action all in a plot that doesn’t really strain your resources to understand.  For me this is a perfect movie to watch in a Home Theater (now I just have to figure out how to buy one for myself!). The story follows the journey of Theseus (Henry Cavill, our new Superman) as he tries to thwart King Hyperion (Mickey Rourke) from releasing the Titans who will then procedure to destroy the gods ie. Zeus, Apollo, Poseidon etcetera.  To do this, he basically kills everyone in sight, makes a … [Read more...]

Sucker Punch Movie Review

Sucker Punch poster

By Eddy Sucker Punch is the story of Baby Doll (Emily Browning).  She was committed to an insane asylum by her stepfather after she mistakenly kills her little sister in attempt to protect her from being molested by him.  The Stepfather pays a corrupt orderly to forge papers to have her lobotomized in five days. Baby Doll finds “friends” in the form of 4 other inmates (Abbie Cornish, Jena Malone, Vanessa Hudgens and Jamie Chung).  The movie shows as she escapes further and further into her own mind, first to a brothel/burlesques show setting and then to various battle scenes as she and her friends attempt to recover 5 items that will allow them to escape the sanitarium. Visually the move plays out like the perfect video game.   It’s as if the director, Zach Snyder,  polled every dork/geek/dweeb and digbat (including myself) in the U.S. and asked them what they wanted to see in an action movie.  Who can argue with scantily clad young ladies fight … [Read more...]

The Other Side of the Dog: Watchmen Movie Review

watch_watchmen_online_poster_2

By Eddy How do I begin?  Let me pull the curtain back and give you a look at how I became familiar with Watchmen.    When I was younger I used to read comic books, I was never a big collector, I was just into reading the stories.  As I got older, I more or less stopped reading them (ie. I found out that girls wouldn't talk to you if they found out your read them...at least not the ones that put out, Ha, ha, ha. Those were the days!). Ultimately, like herpes they really never left me (No I don't have herpes...it's a metaphor bitches).  I still watched all the comic book related movies when they came out, and with the growing popularity of graphic novels I was exposed to a whole new world of comics.  Even better was that the stories were usually self-contained meaning there was no need to wait till the next issue to find out what happened. In most girl's eyes comics and graphic novels are just children's picture books only they are for adults.  Which means I have to be … [Read more...]

Blog: The Dark Knight

Just saw "The Dark Knight" a couple days ago and I am still reeling from it.  Much like a one night stand, I am left with a huge bag of questions and emotions: should this continue? Did I enjoy the experience? Did I get anything from this? Did I love it? Needless to say I need a couple of days to get my head straight so I would expect any phones calls the next day...meaning, it might take me a bit before I write a review on this. So cut me a little slack. Yet, let me give this much about the movie: Ledger's performance was actually better than I thought, and I had a huge amount of expectation.  It actually disturbed me to the point were I am not sure if I enjoyed the movie, it was almost like watching a truly crazy person.  It made me uncomfortable.  God knows, what he had to do to get in that mind set, but considering the reports of his behavior before he died it seems to have affected him even after the movie.  It's pretty sad that it had to come to that.  It sucks … [Read more...]
