Dancing Hotdogs and The Croods Belt

Disclosure: I attended this The Croods and The Moms sponsored event as press.  As always my post is my unbiased opinion on the movie. A few weeks ago my little men and I were guests of The Moms where we not only got to see a prescreening of the new DreamWorks family 3D movie The Croods but we got to meet Belt and hear from Catherine Keener who plays the Ugga the cavewoman mom who is struggling to keep her family together in a changing world. Check out the trailer. Synposis: The Croods tells the story of the world's first family road trip. When their cave is destroyed, the Crood family must embark on a comedy adventure into strange and spectacular territory in search of a new home. As if patriarch Grug (Nicolas Cage) didn't already have enough to handle, it goes from bad to worse when they encounter an imaginative nomad named Guy (Ryan Reynolds.) With Guy's help the Croods conquer their fear of the outside world and discover that they have exactly what it takes to … [Read more...]

(Video) Rise of the Guardians DVD/Blu-Ray Combo Review

return-guardians-blu

i The Rise of The Guardians comes out on Blu-Ray and DVD on March 12, 2013.  The Dancing Hotdogs had a wonderful movie night at home to check out the film and have one of our patented family movie nights.  What’s better than watching a fun movie eating some popcorn and other snacks with the entire on the couch together?  D and I have to take advantage of this time while we can, before the boys become too embarrassed to hang out with us. The Rise of the Guardians was created by the same team that gave us the hit DreamWorks film: How to Train Your Dragon. Based on a novel by William Joyce, The Rise of the Guardians uses some of our favorite holiday characters such as Santa (Alec Baldwin) the Tooth Fairy (Isa Fischer) and the Easter Bunny (Hugh Jackman), who act as guardians for the world’s children against the evil of the bogeyman. Amidst this battle we are treated to the heartfelt adventure centering on the mischievous and ultimately lonely Jack Frost (Chris Pine) who … [Read more...]

(Video) Disney’s Wreck-It Ralph 3D Movie Review

Wreck-It Ralph Poster

Image courtesy of Disney Eddy, Rock, X and I were invited to a prescreening of the latest Walt Disney Animation Studios where we were thoroughly entertained by the unlikely hero, Wreck-It Ralph, family friendly humor and the amazing visuals. Synopsis: From Walt Disney Animation Studios and Emmy®-winning director Rich Moore comes “Wreck-It Ralph,” a hilarious, arcade-game-hopping adventure. For decades, Ralph (voice of John C. Reilly) has been overshadowed by Fix-It Felix, Jr. (voice of Jack McBrayer), the good-guy star of their game who always gets to save the day. Tired of playing the role of a bad guy, Ralph takes matters into his own massive hands and sets off on a journey across the arcade through multiple generations of video games to prove he’s got what it takes to be a hero. On his quest, Ralph meets tough-as-nails Sergeant Calhoun (voice of Jane Lynch) from the first-person action game Hero’s Duty, and feisty misfit Vanellope von Schweetz (voice of Sarah … [Read more...]

For Dads: Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter DVD review

Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter

Image courtesy of 20th Century Fox Arriving in stores on DVD, Blu-Ray and Blue-Ray 3D is Abraham Lincoln:Vampire Hunter.  Obviously from the title you can tell what this movie is about.  Imagine a world with Vampires and the only person who can stop them is the 16th president of the United States of America.  Obviously there is a lot more story to it than this, but the basic jist is that good Old Abe was probably packing a small axe in his famous black hat.  Following the life of the president from his childhood all the way through to his assassination, I am fairly certain that you wont mistake this movie from the one being made by Steven Speilberg.  With that said, I doubt Spielberg’s Licoln will be spinning an axe around chopping vampires in half.  So in my mind, it’s a give and take. Honestly, there were two reason why I wanted to see this movie: 1) The director Timur Bekmambetov.  Mr. Bekmambetov is a master of action movie, directing one of the more innotive … [Read more...]

For Dads: Samsung UN46D6400 46-Inch 1080p 120 Hz 3D LED HDTV Review

Samsung 4600 HD TV

It has been over 7 years since I had to look for a new television.  Obviously, during that time, there have been a significant number of technological changes.  Actually, since that faithful night that we brought our TV home to now, televisions don’t even look the same.  Gone are the big bulky sets of the past enter now the newer sleek and preposterously thin T.V.s with unbelievable capabilities from connecting to other media and machines to presenting images in 3D. Back then, a couple of thousand bought you a 40 inch HD (probably 720p) rear projection TV from Sony, top of the line.  I will have to say that our Sony continues to work very well, though not as good as it did in the past and with a couple of replacements.  Now with the new Samsung 6400, our old Sony will spend a nice and quiet retirement playing exercise DVDs and Kids movies down in our basement. Trust me we aren’t in mourning for the loss, especially when the Samsung 6400 brings the Dancing Hotdogs … [Read more...]

For Dads:Journey 2: The Mysterious Island #BlurayElite Review #SP

journey 2

As a member of Warner Home Video super exclusive Blu-Ray Elite team, I get access to some of the greatest movies ever made. My mission is to give you how these movies fit in the life of a Dad. Movie: Journey 2: the Mysterious Island Finally a kids movie, though not an obvious classic this is one of those wonderful time wasters that grab kids attention and doesn't let it go for almost 2 hours.  A sequel to Journey to the Center of the Earth, the movie exchanges Brendan Fraser for the The Rock and follow the adventures of the Andersons as they try to find the Mysterious Island depicted in books such as Treasure Island and Gulliver’s Travels. In my mind ,this is the spiritual successor to Honey I Shrunk the Kids, as the inhabitants of the island are all reversed in size, therefore big animals are small and small animals are enormous leading to dinosaur like insects and reptiles.  Oh yeah, there is definitely a bee flying scene as well. Dad Factor: medium/low: While there is … [Read more...]

(Video) John Carter Movie Review

John Carter Movie poster

By Eddy I was fortunate enough to catch an IMAX 3D screening of John Carter yesterday.  Directed by Andrew Stanton (Finding Nemo and Wall-E) and starring Taylor Kitsch as the sparsely clothed title character, John Carter, we were brought on an adventure from the post civil war U.S. to obviously Mars.  We followed John, a former Confederate Captain, mining for gold in Arizona who somehow stumbles upon a transport to a totally unrecognizable and fully populated Mars.   From here he is introduced to a long going war in Mars and its inhabitants who want to use his super jumping skills and strength (due to the lower gravity in Mars) to their causes in the battle.  Along the way he falls for a Martian princess (who coincidently looks human) and must ultimately save her from the bad guys. Check out the 10 minute of the film. You could definitely tell that Andrew Stanton was a definite fan of the book when he was younger, and he would have to be to choose this project as his … [Read more...]

Captain America: The First Avenger Movie Review

Captain America

By Eddy One of the most over used terms for Comic book style movies is Campy.  Campy is defined by dictionary.com as Effeminate: affected in mannerism, dress, etc. Relating to or considered characteristic of homosexuals Consciously artificial, exaggerated, vulgar, or mannered; self-parodying, especially when in dubious taste. I am not going to lie.  I didn’t really see the first two definitions coming.  In terms of most movies that I associate with the word, the third is the closet.  Yet even with the text book definition it seems that most movie critics professional or otherwise seem to throw the word around so much that it seems to have lost its meaning. In my mind the truest definition of the word in terms of movies and television is the old 1960’s Batman starring Adam West.  While exhibiting copious amounts of the first two definitions the shows also tended to treat itself less serious than the other shows around it.  It seemed like they were in all the … [Read more...]

Mars Needs Moms Movie Review

mars needs moms

By Divina Wow! The animation and the 3D effects on Walt Disney Pictures’ latest motion picture, Mars Needs Moms, are amazing.  When compared to similar technology in movies such as Polar Express and A Christmas Carol and this Disney Digital 3D movie blows them away. But first a quick synopsis from Disney: Take out the trash and eat your broccoli—who needs moms, anyway?  Nine-year-old Milo (Seth Green) finds out just how much he needs his mom (Joan Cusack) when she’s nabbed by Martians who plan to steal her mom-ness for their own kids. Mars Needs Moms showcases Milo’s quest to save his mom—a wild adventure in Disney Digital 3D™ and IMAX® 3D that involves stowing away on a spaceship, navigating an elaborate, multi-level planet and taking on the alien nation and their leader (Mindy Sterling). With the help of a tech-savvy, underground earthman named Gribble (Dan Fogler) and a rebel Martian girl called Ki (Elisabeth Harnois), Milo just might find his way back to his … [Read more...]

Megamind Movie Review

megamind-movie-poster

By Divina Phew, October is over and now Babyboy and I can finally go to the movies again.  Unfortunately, there haven't been many that we wanted to see or that were kid friendly other than that Owl movie.  We do not do scary movies; we have horrible nightmares about monsters. So we were very happy when on November 5, DreamWork Animation came out with their latest release Megamind which was a super fun family film that has everyone cheering for the villain instead of the hero. Villian Megamind voiced by Will Ferrell and Hero Metro Man voiced by Brad Pitt have been rivals since they were babies flying through space as they escaped their destroyed home planets.  Metro Man got all the luck by being fair skinned and raised by super wealthy parents.  Megamind is blue, crash lands in a prison yard and is raised by criminals who teach him the wrong kind of morals. Fast forward to grown up Metro Man and Megamind battling for control over Metro City and the heart of Roxanne … [Read more...]
