Shrek: The Musical Broadway Review

shrek_the_musical_-_key_art

By Rosa Dancing Hotdogs got invited to see the new Broadway show, Shrek the Musical based on Shrek the movie which was wildly popular with everyone. Let me start my saying Shrek the Musical WAS AMAZIING.  Quick synopsis for those who have not watched Shrek, (where have you been? There have been three movies!) Shrek the Ogre and Donkey the talking donkey are commissioned by Lord Farquaad to save Princess Fiona from her tower.  After saving the Princess and on the way home, Princess Fiona realizes she may have more in common with her unlikely knight then the Lord.  Through the journey they meet a colorful cast of characters like the Gingerbread man, Pinocchio, the wolf and other favorites from popular fairy tales. The movie and the musical were very similar with even some lines being exactly the same like "not the gumdrop button" and "do you know the muffin man" but they also added parts to the story that were not in the film. Like when … [Read more...]

Young Frankenstein Broadway Review

young-frankenstein

By Eddy Dancing hotdogs was graciously invited for a viewing of the Broadway show "Young Frankenstein" not too long ago.  While we were unable to go, it did spur me to write a review of the same show we saw a couple of weeks ago (To think if I had held out a little longer I could have watched it for free.  My wallet is crying) I first became familiar with the Broadway show on Thanksgiving or Christmas of last year.  In one of the lame T.V. specials that the channel was having, they had a couple of live performances from the casts of various Broadway shows.  The ones that stood out were "Young Frankenstein" and "Xanadu".  Each one made a definite impression.  Xanadu's performance of flowing spandex and roller skates, made me want to bash my face into the T.V. just to make the horrid images and sounds stop. I haven't seen the show, so it really could be good or something, but that performance left me so turned off that I could not even look at my … [Read more...]

Rock of Ages Broadway Review

rock-of-ages

If you can't see the video below click here>>> Rock of Ages . By Eddy and Gem Editor's note: Gem wrote her part in entirety before I did mine, the fact that we had similar views only goes to show that great minds think alike, enjoy! The First He said, She said Review. Yes, I have asked (forced) Eddy to go to a few Broadway shows with me. I am a Broadway baby raised on musicals and show tunes. Broadway show-going goes hand in hand with being in love with me.  On my XM favorites I have programmed channel one as the 80s hits and channel two as Broadway hits.  But on top of all that, being in love with Eddy also requires listening to a lot of big hair band 80s music like Quiet Riot, Iron Maiden, Poison, Motley Crue, Journey, Extreme, etc, etc. So no matter what he says, this is not just a one sided relationship with him especially with his Angelina Jolie obsession. Rock of the Ages is the new off Broadway hit that just opened combining both of the … [Read more...]
