21 Jump Street Movie Review

I am an unabashed 21 Jump Street fan (yes, the show from the 80s).  I can clearly remember watching the show from its absolute premier to its cancellation.  I am not sure what drew it to me in the first place, but to my young mind these “cop” turned high school students were the coolest people I knew.  Fast forward to the 21st century and now due to the originality and genius of Hollywood we have a movie.  Refreshingly, the movie takes a totally different approach to the story, not just bringing back the original characters back and just retelling some lost and forgotten plot line that couldn’t cut it for the original show, we are treated to an almost self aware parody of buddy cops in a similar vein of the Other Guys, just with more high school students.  Starring Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum as youthful looking inept cops who almost as a last resort are co-opted into a revived program from the 80s in which cops infiltrate high schools to fight crime.  Both officers … [Read more...]

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs Movie Review

By Divina Just a really fun movie experience!  Based on Ron and Judi Barrett's children's book with the same name, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs follows the life of a brilliant but misunderstood inventor called Flint Lockwood (Bill Hader) who strives to get the love and respect of his town by inventing something that the town really needs...good food.   Swallows Falls is a small fishing town with the main crop being sardines.  The small town eats sardines in every form even as candy.  So Flint hopes his latest invention will turn ordinary water into food and hopefully make his father, Tim, proud (James Caan) and earn the respect of his lifelong bully Brent (Andy Samberg) and the rest of the unique town.  Flint's invention works, all his wishes seem to be coming true and he may even get the girl (Anna Faris) until the town Mayor voiced by Bruce Campbell uses Flint's invention for his own personal gain.
