For Dads: Johnny Walker Father’s Day

JOHNNIE_WALKER Blue

For those of you who waited until the absolute last minute to get a Father's day gift for your dad, do not frett (Slacker!). Like I said before, a bottle of Johnny Walker Blue is always a great present.  Add in the fact that now you can engrave the bottles and it is a home run.  Just head to the Grand Central Terminal from 11am EST to 7pm EST all the way up until Father's Day (June 17th).  All it takes is 45 characters and less to make a gift even more memorable.  If you are having trouble coming up with what to say here  are some tips directly from Dan Gerstein, the founder of New York's only world-class, full-service writing firm Gotham Ghostwriter: 1) KEEP IT TIGHT: Remember, you only have 45 characters to say something memorable. So think of your words as being precious as the gift you are giving -- to be poured with care. Don’t worry about signing your name  -- write the right thing, and he’ll know who the gift is from. Focus on maximizing your message.  2) … [Read more...]

(Video) For Dads:Nogent SuperKim Can Opener Review

Nogent SuperKim Can Opener

Not content to just level matter in the kitchen to those of the fairer sex, Dad’s sometime must make sumptuous meals for the entire family, but like every project the proper tools are needed.   In the case of the Nogent SuperKim Can opener smaller is better. While not the most obvious gift for Father’s Day, sometimes it is the bare necessities that make some of the best gifts.  Even he isn’t a fan of the outdoor the Super Kim simple and efficient design gets the job done.   I really like it because it doesn’t take much space in the drawer and dulls the edge of the can, which is great when you have kids walking around putting their hands on everything.  When trying out the SuperKim no squeezing or effort is necessary just attach and start twisting, and at a price at around $15 it makes for a nice little addition to any gift. Check out our video. Disclosure: I recieved a Nogent SuperKim for review purposes but my post is my unbaised opinion on the product. … [Read more...]

(Video) For Dads: Toshiba BDX 3300 Blu-Ray/DVD Player Review

BDX 3300 DH

Give a man a Blu-Ray and he will entertain himself for a couple of hours, give him a Blu-Ray player and he will be entertained for a lifetime.  While a lifetime may be a bit too long considering the life cycle of technology, this mangled proverb does have a bit of truth.  For Fathers Day, it is easy (and cheaper) to just buy Dad some movie that he may more may not like, but sometime it is better to go the extra mile and give him something that  he is certain to use for a long time.  With the huge quality difference over DVDs and the fact that everyone is buying HDTVs now, the only logical choice is a Blu-Ray Player. One of the best players that I have tried out is the just released for 2012 Toshiba BDX line of Blu-Ray/DVD Players.  I got to try out the 3300 which is the 2D version, and it was like night and day when compared to what we were watching before.  The biggest factor for me was how simple it was to set up, all you need is an HDMI cable (not included) and you are … [Read more...]

For Dads: Johnnie Walker Blue Father’s Day Event

Johnnie Walker Blue Bottle

It seems like Johnnie Walker has been a part of my life for many years, from my father drinking it with coconut water when I was younger to me all grown up drinking Blue label last Wednesday in New York City.  One my fondest moments with Johnnie Walker was presenting my Dad with a bottle on Father’s day a five or six years ago it being one of those moments where I felt like an adult.  I don’t think I have ever been able to top that father’s day gift ever since. Back to last week, as I said I was at a Johnnie Walker Blue Event in NYC, where the Johnnie Walker Brand was trying to build awareness about the Blue Label brand as a great gift for Father’s day (Already knew that) and to let us know about a complimentary bottle engraving kiosk opening in Grand Central Terminal. The kiosk which used to be only available during the Christmas will be available for complimentary engravings of your Blue Label bottles from June 4th to June 17th.  Engravings can be up to 45 characters … [Read more...]

For Dads: (Video) Sirius XM Edge with Speaker Dock from Radio Shack

Sirius XM Edge & Speakers

Father's day alert! Father's day alert!  The forth most important day of the year approaches (behind Thanksgiving, Superbowl and the start of the football season).  We fathers are notoriously hard to shop for, but we are certainly worth it.  To make things  a bit easier over the next couple of weeks I am going to post on a couple of presents I think are great for Dad's (wink, wink Divina). First on the list is The SiriusXM Edge Radio and SiriuXM Portable Speaker Doc.  I am a big fan of satellite radio, the less commercials the better as far as I am concerned.  In addition, music has become so pop oriented that all the other genre stations like rock, blues and jazz are closing down.  Satellite has become the last bastion for truly great music.  So I ask you: why deprive your Dad of that gift?  In addition, there is just something classic about sitting down with the family and listening to the radio, I have to confess that I sometime try to imagine how it was … [Read more...]

Verizon’s The Perfect Day #Giveaway #Sweepstakes

Mothers-Day-Gift

It isn’t often that we get to give our mom or those moms in our life all that they deserve.  In a lot of cases to do that you would have to spend a lot of money.  When I sat down trying to figure out what the Boys and I would get D for mother’s day it wasn’t an easy task (what do you get the girl that has everything?). When I would finally come up with a decent idea, I would realize that it was a bit over our budget, not to say that D does not more than deserve it.  My struggles over getting a mother’s day present had me wonder how others were faring, and how it would be great if someone just gave me all the stuff that would make a wonderful mother’s day present. Verizon Wireless listened and came up with a huge giveaway you can nominate your own mom for! The Perfect Day Giveaway Sweepstakes Grand Prize Package includes: a manicure, pedicure, massage, facial, laundress, house cleaning, and dinner/restaurant voucher or gift card for $350 (approximate retail value: … [Read more...]

The Three Wise Men are on their way- it’s time to Celebrate! Tres Reyes Twitter Party

Mibestbuy DH

One of the major holiday's in Hispanic culture is Three Kings Day (no not the movie with Marky Mark and George Clooney).  Unfortunately, for the past couple of years D and I haven't really been keeping up with observing the holiday.  It is much easier when you are a kid and getting presents add in the fact add in that Rock usually got enough presents to last a couple of Christmases you can understand why we decided to hold off.   Yet this past year the date (1/6/11) took on specially significance to our family.  That was the birthday of our second boy, X.  So after many years,  Three Kings Day has returned to being a day of meaning and celebration for Divina and I.  We couldn't have asked for a better present last year to kick off our Three Kings Day revival.  But beyond that the day means so much more, as a day to reflect and be thankful for all the gifts we have been given. Now that you know what Three Kings Day means to us, it is time to let us know what it means to … [Read more...]
