(Video) Lifeproof Nuud iPad Air Review (Updated)

Courtesy of Lifeproof.com

Disclosure: We recieved a Lifeproof Nuud for the iPad Air for review purposes.  This post represents my unbiased opinion. UPDATE (7/21/14)-We recieved the Cover + Stand and Hand Strap + Sholder Strap after our intial review.  Each one is sold seperately and retail for $40.  See below for more of our thoughts on these accessories. Life is too short to worry about breaking your iPad or tablet, but that is what I find myself thinking about as I purchased the latest iPad Air. When you drop nearly $1000 on a single “toy” you want to make sure that you don’t break it in the first month. All the insurance policies in the world won’t stop you from that unlucky drop on the floor which shatters the screen. I am sure that many of you iPhone owners know the feeling. In the case of an iPhone even if the screen is broken, you can still make phone calls (though who uses an i “phone” to make call anyways) but do that to a tablet or iPad and you basically lose the exact reason why you bought … [Read more...]

(Video) Jabra Style Headset Review

Courtesy of Jabra.com

Disclosure: We received a Jabra Style headset for review purposes. This posts represents my unbiased opinion. Headsets have evolved so much over the past couple of years.  I can still remember the clunky wired headsets that would be packaged along with my new cellphone.  They were hilariously large and ultimately useless.  They would usually end up being left in my glove compartment (as if I would be able to reach them and plug it in while I was driving)  I am sure if I ever did a full cleaning of my car, I would find 4 or 5 of them nested in some dark corner. Compared to them, the Jabra Style looks like it belongs from another planet or from the future. Sleek and stylish the Jabra Style is the latest of Jabra’s line of bluetooth headsets.  Your headsets are like shoes, the situation should dictate what you wear.  The Style is like a nice suit, perfect for work and the boardroom, but not so much in the gym.  The tiny profile and professional design is compact and unobtrusive.  If … [Read more...]

Toy Fair 2014 Round Up #TFNY #TF14

Courtesy of the Toy Industry Association, Inc.

Starting this past Sunday, New York City was taken over by toys.  I know it seems like Christmas and the holiday craze has only just passed, but with a new year come a whole new set of great toys for kids of all ages.  D and I love to check out the up and coming toys when we are at Toy Fair, it is the perfect place to see the under the radar toy companies as well as the best place to discover the next best thing before it hits the shelves later on in the year. Here are a couple of our favorite things from Toy Fair so far: Slapstache- As a proud child of the late 80s and early 90s, I have no problem admitting that I had quite a few slap bracelets (Don’t let the urban legends scare you, they were pretty darn cool).  In this day and age, the moustache has made an astronomic rise in popularity, so what is better than a Slap bracelet and a moustache put together? Nothing.  It doesn’t hurt that purchases of the Slapstache also go to charity.  Lootcrate.- Who … [Read more...]

The Wavering Werewolf Book Review

Courtesy of Tor Books

Disclaimer: We recieved a review copy from Tor Books. Ages 9-13 was really when I became a voracious reader, I attribute it to the huge selection of books that were beginning to be marketed to the pre teen market.  I loved read scary stories, there was just something about them that really drew me. I can still remember reading through the famous Goosebumps series.  While they weren’t works of art, they were essentially the beginning of my obsession with beach reading books. It is great to see the quality of preteen stories continue to get better.  I really think that it was due to the popularity of the Harry Potter series.  Harry Potter showed that books for teens and preteens can be huge sellers, which brought more talented writers to the genre.  It also didn’t hurt that supernatural stories have become the flavor of the month for the past couple of years. Recently, the author David Lubar has been coming out with a number of highly acclaimed short stories and novels such as … [Read more...]

Under the Weather Watching #NetflixKids

Courtesy of Netflix.com

Disclosure: I am part of the Netflix Stream Team.  As always, my posts are based on my opinions and experiences. I have to say we have pretty lucky lately (knock on wood) we haven’t had a major sickness hit the family yet.  Of course like most families during the winter, one or all of us is getting over something, but at the moment no major stomach viruses or flus have knocked us out.  With that said, we have had a couple of sick days, and we have taken full advantage of being little couch potatoes during that time. Our favorite past time during our sick days, is cuddling up under our huge blanket and watching some TV, I cant tell you how many shows and movies I have caught up during those days, it a perfect time to binge watch without feeling guilty.  With the boys we obviously stick to the Kids only section in Netflix.  One of favorite things to do is pick out one of the recommended items and watch them.  It is a great way to find something new, if we don’t like … [Read more...]

The Lone Ranger Blu Ray Review

Courtesy of Disney

Disclosure: We received a copy of The Lone Ranger on Blu Ray.  This post represents my unbiased opinion. The Lone Ranger was released today on Blu Ray.  You probably didn’t watch the movie when it was in the theaters. You would think that by bringing back Director Gore Verbinski and Johnny Depp from the worldwide hit Pirates of the Caribbean series, Disney was hoping for another grand slam at the box office.  It is hard to fault them.  Let’s look at the formula.  Bring in a handsome lead (ex. Orlando Bloom), take a historic setting (ex. British Empire era Caribbean) add Johnny Depp as a quirky, off beat character that helps out the hero and you should have a guaranteed hit on your hands right? Unfortunately, the critics were less than kind leading to horrible numbers at the box office.  If you read the reviews from the press you would think that the movie was the worst thing ever.  In reality, I kind of liked it.  I am not saying that it deserves to be on anyone best pictures … [Read more...]

The Wolverine Blu-Ray Movie Review

Courtesy of www.thewolverinemovie.com.

Disclosure: We received a copy of The Wolverine for review purposes.  This post represents my unbiased opionion. Low expectations, high hopes, that describes my feelings right before watching The Wolverine for the first time.  I will spare you the horror of rehashing the first Wolverine movie, if you really want to you can check out my review here.  Needless to say, sitting down I was afraid to have another bad experience.  Thankfully, this won’t be a repeat of the last movie review. The Wolverine follows Logan to Japan to as he must confront the actions of his past and contemplate the direction of his future.  At the behest of a man he saved decades ago, Wolverine leaves the confines of his seclusion and re-enters a world where past and present clash and nothing is as it seems all the while dealing with his new found mortality after his healing powers were stripped away.  The story follows more of a thriller feel than a regular superhero movie.  No longer is Wolverine the … [Read more...]

DM2_BD_3D_ProdShot_G1_RR

Update! This giveaway is closed congrats to John. Disclosure: Despicable Me 2 is sponsoring this giveaway and provided me with a DVD to review. As always our post is our unbiased opinions. The Gru crew is back again, to the delight of all children.  Especially those obsessed with the ever popular minions. I didn't realize how popular the first film (which we liked) was until I looked at my sons room and found a couple of minions as well as other Despicable Me 2 characters.  I have even read to both boys the kittens story featured in the first film a number of times. The second film picks up where the last one left off: Gru, his adorable girls, and the mischievous Minions are back with a cast of unforgettable new characters in the blockbuster sequel to the worldwide phenomenon.  Just as Gru has given up being super-bad to be a super-dad, the Anti-Villain League recruits him to track down a new criminal mastermind and save the world.   Partnered with secret agent Lucy Wilde, … [Read more...]

Bringing Books to Life with Netflix #streamteam

Courtesy of Netflix.com

Disclaimer: I am member of the Netflix Stream Team.  The opinions expressed in this post are my own. Sometimes it is hard to share the books you loved when you where younger to your children.  I have found that while some books still translate over to the next generation others just don’t resonate.  Fortunately, Rock and I have been able to find a number of these same books as films on Netflix.  Wonderful books such as Charlotte’s Web and James and the Giant Peach can be shared.  In my mind I see it as an opportunity.  Some stories such as Charlotte’s Web might be a little to much for younger children as a bed time story (first of all you can’t finish it all in one night) so being able to watch the movie instead and hopefully create some interest in the book later would be amazing.  This is a good way to introduce the story and the characters before heading into the actual book. One book series that existed when I was younger and continues to draw Rock’s … [Read more...]
