(Video) Iron Man 3 Movie Review

Iron_Man_3_theatrical_poster

While we were at Disney, I got a chance to catch Iron Man 3.  This is the first Iron Man not directed by Jon Favreau.  Instead, Shane Black the screen writer of the Lethal Weapon movies, or as I happen to know him:  one of the Special Forces guys that get killed in the first Predator movie.  Either way, he obviously brings his own flavor to the movie, emphasizing Tony Stark’s (played by Robert Downey Jr.) wit and adding a more comic feel. Check out the official trailer from Marvel If you were looking for an “Iron Man” movie then you are looking in the wrong place.  Iron Man 3 really centers on Tony Stark and his struggles outside of the famous armor. The circumstances after The Avengers movie have left him with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and he can’t seem to pull himself together.  So if you are a big fan of Robert Downy Jr.  then you are going to get your dollars’ worth.  As he is forced for most of the movie to fight his way through bad guys like the Mandarin … [Read more...]

Vortexx Breakfast Pack Giveaway Sweepstakes

Vortexx1

Update! This giveaway sweepstakes is closed.  Congrats to DV. As the boys grow up having time to sit down for breakfast has become more and more difficult, especially when I am by myself.  I would love to say that the TV doesn’t come on at moments like these and I wish I was a better parent in order to handle these situations but when weighing having children who haven’t eaten a breakfast and one that are happy and full, I have decided to take the less of two evils.  Fortunately, this doesn’t happen often.   Either way, sometimes it is good to let loose on a Saturday and watch some Saturday morning cartoons.  I certainly remember my childhood doing exactly the same thing.  Unfortunately, the selection of shows for kids aged 2-4 are usually not the most interesting in the world.  I might be alone here but all cartoons don’t have to be exclusively for education, some can just be about fun.  That is why recently we found ourselves watching the Vortexx block sponsored … [Read more...]

The Incredible Hulk: An Origin Story Book Review

holiday gift guide incredible hulk

By Eddy In the past comic books have introduced the likes of Spiderman, Captain America and the Hulk to younger generation, unfortunately, comics have been in a steep decline.  In order to keep this tradition alive Disney Press and Marvel have created a series of books that introduce the origins of each of their more famous superheroes.  These heroes include Spiderman, the X-men, Captain America, Iron Man and the Incredible Hulk. We recently received from Disney Publishing The Incredible Hulk: An Origin Story.  I noticed a couple of things: ·         The book is laid out like a regular story book, no complicated comic book style boxes to navigate. ·         The story is straight forward and concise.  This books is an introduction for younger kids.  Keeping in this framework the violence is very subdued, don’t get me wrong the Hulk smashes his fair share of stuff but it is kept tasteful and appropriate enough to read to a 3 year … [Read more...]

Thor Movie Review

Thor Movie Poster

By Eddy Not bad Marvel, not bad at all.  Considering all that could have gone wrong (ala Wolverine) along with a director not experienced with Large popcorn action flicks (ala Ang Lee with Hulk) Thor rise the ranks of the comic book movie Patheon to arrive somewhere below the first Spiderman and above the second Iron Man.  Both movies were well received and in the case of Spiderman broke records, but when taken in full perspective of all the movies out there fails to reach the lofty heights of Spiderman 2 and both new Batman movies, rarified air to say the least.  Though I wouldn’t complain there are a ton of films that fall in the same plateau as Thor, the X-Men movies, Superman Returns and the various indie movies from the Crow to Kick Ass.  Each one was fun to watch, but never really took the next step to make it a truly great film. In this case, it could be the subject matter that was its downfall.  In the scheme of things, Thor isn’t really a fan favorite nor really … [Read more...]

Tropic Thunder Movie Review

tropic-thunder

By Eddy Headlined by an all star cast of Ben Stiller, Robert Downey Jr, Jack Black, Tom Cruise, and supported by Matthew McConaughey, Nick Nolte as well as a throng of guest appearances, Tropic Thunder was one of the larger releases this summer.  The movie profits were especially buoyed by Robert Downey's heroic turn in "Iron Man" earlier in the year. For the most part I found it an enjoyable experience, and while I didn't burst a lung laughing out loud, I was entertained, and found the one liners spouted by each of the actors as the best part of the movie.  Most outstanding were the performances of Tom Cruise as a foul mouthed studio boss and Robert Downey Jr.  as an  award winning dramatic actor who in order to maintain his method acting style undergoes plastic surgery to truly become his character.  While most people enjoyed the movie, there was a significant amount of press due to the films treatment of the mentally retarded.  Personally, I could see where … [Read more...]
