For Dads: Kindle Fire from Radio Shack Review Part 2

Amazon Kindle Fire

Image courtesy of Amazon.com For the second part of my review on the Kindle Fire I received from Radio Shack, I will focus on the Fire’s Performance as a Tablet. Screen Resolution Since I am a Amazon Prime Member I get free access to many of the streaming shows and movies on Amazon.  To test out the Fire, I headed over to the site and fired up an episode of Arrested Development.   Once it loaded the show looked great, there were no hiccups in terms of service and the quality looked near HD.  The great thing about having such a small screen is that HD doesn't really factor into the equation.  At such a small screen 1080p, 720p or slightly below do not register as easily as it does on a big screen TV. Screen Touch I have already talked about the sensitivity of the screen in the previous post.  The screen reacted pretty well, though I did experience times where I felt like I had to press a bit harder to get a response.  Unfortunately, the Fire fall a bit short of … [Read more...]

For Dads: Kindle Fire from Radio Shack Review Part 1

Amazon Kindle Fire

Personal technology has continued to evolve over the past couple of years.   Every year there seems to be new “it” products that set the world afire.  In the past, these items used to do one specific thing like play music, let you read books, surf the Internet, but as time has gone on the newest trend has been to combine these functions into one super machine, therefore, the creation of the tablet and more specifically the Apple iPad. The thing is as great as the iPad is; it isn’t for everyone especially when you consider the cost.  That is why I was so excited that Radio Shack gave me the opportunity to try out the Kindle Fire.  While available to purchase online from Amazon, I am a tactile person, and I need the opportunity to hold the product in my hand before I purchase it.  That is why it is so great that the Fire is sold at Radio Shack, I get the opportunity to test drive it first before I buy.  This is very important since Tablets/E-Readers are very personal … [Read more...]

Dancinghotdogs Holiday Buying Guide

gifts

By Eddy For Dad/Boyfriend/etc. To me, dad's/boyfriend's get the shaft.  I am not saying that we are easy to buy for, especially since most of us aren't big into getting presents.  It's the whole provider mentality, when your wife/significant other gives you a present you really don't have any control of the situation, you don't decide what you are getting and worst of all the thought of them spending money on something for you is uncomfortable.  Add on top, that we don't really express ourselves very well, it makes the whole gift buying process pretty difficult. So why do we get the shaft?  Since we are so difficult to buy for, mother's/wives/girlfriends tend to have to try to figure things out themselves...which can lead to a whole bunch of trouble.  I actually take a sort of sick joy in making D do this, it is a good indicator on what she thinks I like and how much she loves me!! (ha..just kidding) So on to the guide, these gifts are not in any particular … [Read more...]

Star War-Fate of the Jedi: Outcast Book Review

star-wars-fate-of-the-jedi-outcast-947103

By Eddy I never got into Star Wars books.  From my perspective they were basically fan fiction.  Just some writers fancy of what the rest of the story would be after the movies, but low in behold, I find that there is an entire universe of books, comics and other lore making up an entire universe.  Of course, everything is tightly monitored and organized by George Lucas (or at least his company to ensure that continuity is kept throughout each story and character).  Unfortunately, with this revelation regarding size and depth of the Star Wars world, it make it a significant barrier for a newbie like me to just jump in and start reading.  There has to be over 50 books, and series each with hundreds of characters and back stories, and with character appearing and reappearing in different series and different points in time. There is material ranging from before A New Hope (the first movie) started to up to forty year later. Needless to say, I was a bit apprehensive when I … [Read more...]
