The Informant! Movie Review

By Eddy If you are familiar with the modern era Ocean's films, then you are already familiar with some of director Steven Soderbergh's most famous works.  While, I am not qualified to say best works (most peoples consensus is that Sex, lies and Videotape is his best, though I have never seen the film...unbelievable, I know). I mention the Ocean's film, because his latest offering to the silver screen gods has a similar vibe and feel.  While totally eschewing the glitz and glamour of Las Vegas, the Informant packs enough punch and wit to entertain most Ocean's fans.  Don't expect George Clooney to walk through those doors though.  While he is an executive producer for the film, The Informant doesn't try to dazzle the audience with stars other than the lead Matt Damon.  Not to say that the supporting cast isn't great.  With comedians such as Joel McHale and Patton Oswalt, Tony Hale and many others, you might not be able to recognize the names I have just mentioned, but if you … [Read more...]

Ponyo Movie Review

By Divina I was so excited for this movie release.  I loved Spirited Away by Academy Award winning director Hayao Miyakazi and his latest film, Ponyo was suppose to be inspired by my favorite Hans Christian fairytale "The Little Mermaid." This sounded like the ideal Disney movie experience for me.  Throw in extremely talented voice talents and Disney should have a winner right? Yes and no.  I will be honest I loved most of the movie but the ending really disappointed me. Ponyo is the story of a little goldfish (Noah Cyrus, Miley's sister) who wants to become a little girl after meeting Sosuke (Frankie Jonas, the youngest of the Jonas brothers, not part of the three that are the band) despite the wishes of her ocean sorcerer father, Fujimoto (Liam Neeson).  Sosuke and his mother Lisa (Tiny Fey) live in a small house on top of a hill while his Captain Father (Matt Damon) is away at sea.
