For Dads: Auvio Stereo Wireless Headphones Review

Auvio Headphones

photo courtesy of Radioshack.com Exclusive to Radio Shack, the Auvio stereo wireless headphone gives you access to your favorite entertainment without having to bug the rest of your family.  Over the last couple of years I have started collecting my favorite music on vinyl.  Since most of my tastes in music run in the decades when vinyl was popular I have been having a great time picking up records of all bands that I love to listen on my IPod.  The thing is my record player is located in the basement, therefore, If I want to listen to a record I have to be down there to do it.  The problem is that I can’t stay in the basement the whole day, there is a ton of stuff that needs to be done at the house and sitting on a couch listening to music isn’t one of them. Therefore it is great having the ability to move around the house, without being tethered to the stereo either by a traditional set of headphone or just having to be near the speakers.  The great thing is that the … [Read more...]

For Dads: House of Marley Smile Jamaica-Jammin’ In Ear headphones

House-of-Marley-Logo

I usually take the train to work, therefore,  I usually take with me an array of tools that make being trapped with a whole bunch of strangers packed like sardines as pleasant as possible.   To help make things more enjoyable, I always take a book/Kindle and my iPod.  These two items are indispensible, almost to a point that if I forget one of them at home, I automatically have a bad day.  You might say that I am addicted, but I find it important to basically reset my brain in the mornings before I start a busy day.  Key to being able to do this is being able to remove all distraction that is why I am super careful about the earphones I uses.   While it may be best to use the ear headphones like a Beats By Dre etc., it just isn’t practical for me since they take up space and they can mess up your hair (not something that I usually care about in general but important when going to work).  That is why I tend to go with in ear buds.  The trouble is finding … [Read more...]

For Dads: Beats by Dre Solo HD from Radio Shack Review

DSCF4777

I love music, I am a big fan of classic rock as well as the blues.  I also  have a growing collections of vinyl record albums. Unfortunately, I cant take that collection on the train with me when I go to work, therefore, like everyone else on the planet I rely on my ipod.  There is a huge debate about which sounds better: vinyl or MP3.  While there certainly is a difference, what I concentrate on is how the sounds is hitting your ears.  Any music is going to sound horrible if it is being delivered by sub par equipment.   Even vaunted Apple gets flack all the time regarding the quality of the iconic white ear phones that are package with every one of their ipods.  Seemingly to answer the need for high quality audio headphones, Beats By Dre was the first to hit the market with a fully realized product for everyday consumers.  Transferring the quality of high end studio headphones with the added benefit of a sleek and fashionable look, Beats was almost destined … [Read more...]

For Dads: (Video) Sirius XM Edge with Speaker Dock from Radio Shack

Sirius XM Edge & Speakers

Father's day alert! Father's day alert!  The forth most important day of the year approaches (behind Thanksgiving, Superbowl and the start of the football season).  We fathers are notoriously hard to shop for, but we are certainly worth it.  To make things  a bit easier over the next couple of weeks I am going to post on a couple of presents I think are great for Dad's (wink, wink Divina). First on the list is The SiriusXM Edge Radio and SiriuXM Portable Speaker Doc.  I am a big fan of satellite radio, the less commercials the better as far as I am concerned.  In addition, music has become so pop oriented that all the other genre stations like rock, blues and jazz are closing down.  Satellite has become the last bastion for truly great music.  So I ask you: why deprive your Dad of that gift?  In addition, there is just something classic about sitting down with the family and listening to the radio, I have to confess that I sometime try to imagine how it was … [Read more...]

Disney’s Baby Einstein New York City Event

baby einstein event

By Divina A few weeks back the boys and I were invited to check out the latest in Disney’s Baby Einstein from their Discovery kits to Apps to their new social media outlets.  I am very familiar with the Baby Einstein toys and have always loved how a mom invented them to play with her baby but had never used the movies or apps before.  I have to say that I am very happy that the line includes several levels of learning for a range of ages.  The new Baby Einstein Discovery Kits are three in one kits that come in three levels and retail for $19.99 in mass retailers. Level 1 Experience is perfect for infants like Baby Bro who are strengthening their eye sight and curious about the new world around them.  The three item kit includes a DVD that has bright color pictures, a classical music CD and a picture book for three types of tools for teaching your baby.  I really liked how the DVD and book included real life pictures so Baby Bro can make the connection when we see what … [Read more...]

Sucker Punch Movie Review

Sucker Punch poster

By Eddy Sucker Punch is the story of Baby Doll (Emily Browning).  She was committed to an insane asylum by her stepfather after she mistakenly kills her little sister in attempt to protect her from being molested by him.  The Stepfather pays a corrupt orderly to forge papers to have her lobotomized in five days. Baby Doll finds “friends” in the form of 4 other inmates (Abbie Cornish, Jena Malone, Vanessa Hudgens and Jamie Chung).  The movie shows as she escapes further and further into her own mind, first to a brothel/burlesques show setting and then to various battle scenes as she and her friends attempt to recover 5 items that will allow them to escape the sanitarium. Visually the move plays out like the perfect video game.   It’s as if the director, Zach Snyder,  polled every dork/geek/dweeb and digbat (including myself) in the U.S. and asked them what they wanted to see in an action movie.  Who can argue with scantily clad young ladies fight … [Read more...]
