For some kiddos Summer break 2014 has started. My little men have two more weeks of learning and then I will be joining parents across the country who will be scrambling to not only entertain our children but feed their minds and prevent summer learning loss. That is why I LOVE being a PBS KIDS ambassador they have amazing programs and resources to help prevent the summer slump. Beginning June 16, PBS KIDS and WGBH will be airing three all-new episodes of MARTHA SPEAKS during “Martha Speaketh Weeketh!” During Martha Speaketh Weeketh, fans can watch their favorite canine linguist speaking in questions, in Polish, and even Elizabethan English. March is National Reading Month, however, every day, every month in every year is reading appreciation time at the Dancing Hotdogs household.  Eddy and I love love love to read and want to instill that into our growing boys by reading together. Some tips for raising a lifetime learner? Establish a reading routine early! They may be just a few days old but as you hold your little one read or sing to them. Bond over a great book and start your own family book club. Incorporate reading and literacy into your adventures. Head to the library, book store, or read out loud to another lifetime learner who may not be able to due to illness. Have books in one key location and accessible for your kids to sit and enjoy for hours. Incorporate fun into reading like hosting an educational play date or birthday party! I remember when PBS KIDS first released a Dinosaur Train and kids just went crazy! Since I did not have kids at the time, I did not know, the joy and scientific discovery that was Dinosaur Train. Now with Rock and X, we can just not get enough of it and we are not alone. More than 10.8M households tune in to watch according to Nielsen ratings. We are adjusting to Rock going to school all day and X is starting his two year old program. One challenge I am undertaking this Fall is changing up our dinner schedule.  I do not know about you but I definitely get into a food rut. Meatloaf, pasta night, Chicken something, Pork something and repeat week after week.  All our meals are nutritious and good but it definitely gets boring.  That is why I am especially happy with the latest PBS KIDS partnership. As always my post is my unbiased opinions. So how did your kids do on the PBS KIDS Summer Reading Challenge? I hope they ROCKED it! My sons and loved the educational summer learning resources but now it is back to school in Connecticut! Today was the first day and Rock had an amazing time but poor little kindergartner came home at 3:15 all tuckered out. Tomorrow another school day and then a long holiday weekend! We have lots of fun activities planned but one definite on the list is watching PBS KIDS and Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood to celebrate Neighbor Day this Labor Day!
