For Dads: A WiiU review for Dads

wiiu

Image courtesy of Nintendo  When you are a dad, time seems to have a habit of flying.  One moment you are waking up at 6 in the morning to go to work, the next you are setting your alarm clock to wake back up at six.  In those blessed few moments before I go to sleep I wonder where my day went. I can remember the times where there seemed too many hours in the day, and almost all of it was taken doing stuff I wanted to do.  Not to say that I regret the things that I am doing now; being a husband and dad, but those responsibility roles seem to sap up all the time I have.  While I don’t normally speak for D, I am pretty sure that she agrees with me. Now you may be wondering how this applies to Nintendo’s latest video game system.   Then let me explain; the key is being able to fit in those “me” moments with the “we” moments.  For those of you that like to play video games the WiiU is the first console to allow you to be able to do that.  Not only can you play … [Read more...]

Video Game Preview: Brink

Brink the Video Game

By Eddy Let me start by saying that I am not a first person shooter type of guy.  I tend to get very claustrophobic in first person perspective (I also hate getting shot from my blind spot, it angers me to no end) as such I tend to avoid these games (Halo, Call of Duty etc have passed me by  to my detriment, and to the great joy of D). But from my very distant view of the first person world, Brink from Splash Damage and Bethesda brings some very different thing to the table, starting with the setting of the game: Ark.  So imagine that the great flood of the bible happened again and everyone who survived is stuck on a floating island/city called the Ark.  Considering that most of humanity is condensed into one small area and dwindling resources you can imagine that there might be a bit of friction between the haves and the have nots. This is where you first decision starts: are you part of the establishment (Ark Security) or a part of the resistance. … [Read more...]

EA Swing into Spring Event

Dragon age 2

By Eddy Every year the EA Swing into Spring has at least a couple of title that I was really interested in checking out.  This year, was the exception…this year I wanted to see all of them.  Unfortunately, with this embarrassment of riches, I was forced to miss a couple of trains home and I didn’t even get a chance to see everything I wanted to see.  It’s crazy, but this current lineup for EA is ridiculously packed with something for everyone.  Here is a bit of what I saw: Alice: Madness Returns- Got to love the return of Alice in Wonderland.  This game is miles apart from the book or even the movies you have seen.  I am not sure why in the last couple of years people have tried to turn Alice into a Goth princess.  This game takes it to the extreme though.  Mentally scarred and hallucinating, not to mention trips to a mental asylum, Alice returns to Wonderland and finds it a VERY different place.  Visually, the game is takes it into Tim Burton territory and … [Read more...]

SEGA: Captain America and Thor Video Games

thor

By Eddy NY Comic Con has come and gone, and we are left to pick up all the pieces.   Yet I am pretty sure that the true effect of the "Con" won't be felt until closer to the holidays when all the video games, movies and books that were showcased finally hit the market. I am hoping to shed a bit of light on some of the many things that I had the chance to preview at the Javitz center. One of the more exclusive views I got was of the Captain America and Thor video games scheduled to arrive from SEGA .  First with Thor, while the game isn't totally finished certain lucky individuals were invited to view an exclusive screening of video from the game hosted by one of the game creators.  While there wasn't much of actual game footage we did get a number of small clips as well view concept art for the game.  From what I saw and heard the whole concept of the game was to let the player really feel as if they were the God of Thunder...yes I know we hear this with … [Read more...]

Namco Bandai at Comic Con

By Eddy Yeah, I know it's been almost a month since Comic Con ended, but we saved the best for last. Our Final installment of our Comic Con experience brings us to one of our favorite video game developers, Namco Bandai. This year, they certainly had a great line up available for us to try out. Dragonball  Z: Raging Blast 2 The first being one of my favorite shows from college, Dragon Ball Z.  D can attest that my friends and I wasted many hours watching these shows from Japan.  DBZ has also carved itself a nice little niche in the video game world.  Their latest offering is Dragon Ball Z: Raging Blast 2 . Including 90 different playable character you can literally be any and every character from the series, which means classic battles can be recreated at will.  On top of that, with new updated graphics on the PS3 and Xbox 360 as well as a smooth battle system that is definitely an improvement over the last game. At Comic Con, I got the opportunity to talk with … [Read more...]

EA Sports New York Kick Off Event

ncaa-football-11

By Eddy A couple of times a year EA usually has a showcase for their headliner games. They give a number of media outlets the opportunity to play the games and meet with the developers.  Obviously a lot of work goes into setting up the event as it is evident that EA really cares about getting these games out to the public.  With that said, in my personal opinion it's actually unnecessary (not to say that they shouldn't have any events, I have way to much fun at them) but the quality of the games speak for themselves and have for a long time now.  Nowhere is this more evident that with the EA Sports line of games.  For the past decade EA Sports has consistently put out games that usually rate at the top of the list each year, and after my time with their future offerings for 2010, I am confident that things will remain the same. So here is the recap from our visit to the Ainsworth in New York City for the EA Sports New York Kick Off. EA Sports Active Wii Game By … [Read more...]

EA’s Swing into Spring Event

new-image

Editors Note:  James is our newest contributor and as you will see he is big into video games. He brings us a veteran gamers' perspective to the site and we are looking forward to hearing more from him. By James On my way into Grand Central for  EA 's Wing into Spring Event in the Hudson Terrace on the west side, I said to myself "I can't believe I'm taking off work to check out the a bunch of video games!" (my wife said the same thing but with a slightly different connotation). Being an Atari raised household in the early eighties I've graduated from Mike Tyson's Punch Out, Contra, and 007 to my most recent addiction, Bad Company 2 which was being showcased in 3D. The Terrace was divided into 7 or 8 sections with an EA SME (subject matter expert) on each game. My first stop was the new Medal of Honor . Let me tell you that this game looks sick. … [Read more...]

Blog: Namco Bandai Blogger Party II

namcobandai

By Eddy A week ago, Divina, her sisters and I took the train to NYC because we were fortunate to be invited to the Namco Bandai Bloggers party.  Below are my thoughts on a couple of the game we previewed: We Cheer 2 The follow up to the popular initial offering for the Wii, We Cheer 2 steps things up adding new songs (many of them I was actually able to recognize, solving one of the problems that I had with the first We Cheer.  Most of the songs for the original  were for the tween set. How is a 26 year old aspiring male cheerleader supposed to rock with his pom-poms out if he doesn't recognize the song?).  Don't worry tweeners there are plenty of songs from Miley, Demi and Selena etc. if you don't recognize these first names then you are way too old. We Cheer 2 allows you to customize your cheerleader as well as adding different difficulty levels like exercise mode.  To tell you the truth, in my experience with this game all the levels are exercise mode.  You … [Read more...]
