Toys have so much potential to help children learn, but it is up to parent to be able to find the right fit for their child. This is no easy task, especially with television bombarding kids with so many toys and gadgets that really have no value but are super fun. Finding the right balance between fun and educational is not an easy task, but it is an important one for the development of a child’s growth. For some time, Rock has shown an interest in outdoor life especially bugs (like most boys). He has a love/hate relationship with them, while they scare him sometimes he just can’t help be fascinated by them. Obviously, at four years old there is only so much bug related activities that he can do, but I still wanted to nurture his sense of curiosity and encourage him to explore his environment. That is why I was pleasantly surprised to find that National Geographic had teamed up with Uncle Milton, a leader in entertaining science related toys (check out our review of … [Read more...]
NFL.com/Fantasy Review

By Eddy Last week marked the start of the NFL season; an important event in most men’s live. Yet this weekend also marked another important event (Please remember this is all outside the realm of the anniversary of 9/11, I don’t think it warrants mentioning that the remembrance of that event supersedes everything I have been talking about) and that is the start of fantasy football season. It seems that the popularity of the latter has increased to a point that it is celebrated just as reverently as the NFL season. For the last 5 or 6 years a group of my fraternity brothers have had a fantasy football league. One of the hardest things that I have found was deciding one which website to host it on. There are so many out there. In fact, even when you chose one, you may end up switching by the end of the year. So far our league has switched 2 times. Outside of my fraternity league I have had the opportunity to check out league sites on yahoo, CBS sportsline and … [Read more...]
Cars 2 The Video Game Review

By Eddy Wow this game surprised me. I actually thought it was better than the movie itself. In its simplest terms the game is Mario Kart with cooler weapons. Just let that sink in! Yet even being closely linked to the famous racing series doesn’t mean that it is all it has to offer. In addition to the combat (kart) style racing the game also feature a number of interesting modes such as hunting down enemy cars through a large arena or playing capture the flag. The plot of the game strays away from the movie and sticks you in the role of a spy from C.H.R.O.M.E (the spy agency in the film) you start out slow building your spy car chops in training missions, but as you progress through the game, the challenges become more dangerous as well as more exciting. There is a large roster of playable character including all the stars of the film. The game also includes most of the original voices of the characters as well (except for Lightning and Finn … [Read more...]
Goodnite Lite Product Review

By Eddy One of the biggest lessons I have learned so far as a parent is “it’s the little things that count.” Since sleep has become a premium at our house, the youngest goes to sleep around 10-11 the oldest wakes up around 5:30 -6:30, you can imagine how even an extra 15 minutes of sleep can be valuable. I can vividly remember waking up at 5:50 and seeing the clock then immediately closing my eye savoring the pleasure of an extra 10 minutes. Believe me those extra minutes make a difference to a parent, they are the difference between having a good day or snapping at even the littlest thing and don’t even get me started on the merits of uninterrupted sleep, give me 4 or 5 hours of uninterrupted sleep over 7 or 8 hours of waking up every hour or so any day. Yet things didn’t used to be so easy, if you rewind a couple of months ago, Big Brother was getting up at all different hours of the night and morning. Big brother was then cranky all day due to lack of sleep … [Read more...]
Super 8 Movie Review

By Eddy Leading up to the premier of Super 8, nobody really knew what the movie was about. There was so much secrecy; it was if it was the next Star Wars movie or something. It got to be ridiculous, and a bit self important. I was pretty sure that this movie wasn’t going to save the world or anything and I fairly certain Steven Spielberg wasn’t going to donate his share of the profits to hungry orphans so why the big hush, hush, why make it such a secret. To this day I couldn’t tell you why. Yeah it was a cute movie and all, but I don’t think knowing anything about the plot or creature made this movie any worse or any better. It was Cloverfield all over again, just a little less disappointing. Before I went into the theater, I kept on hearing from those who had watched the film that it was a lot like Goonies in the sense that a group of kids go on a fantastic adventure. For the most part it is true, there is a group of kids and there is adventure, just none … [Read more...]

The Fighter Movie Review

By Divina Let me just start by saying I love Christian Bale. I have loved him from Disney's Newsies film. He is just so talented. Every movie he is in he just becomes the character. It's not Christian Bale acting as this person or role it's this person or character taking over Christian Bale's body to tell a story. The Fighter is no different. Based on the true story of half brother boxers "Irish" Micky Ward (Mark Wahlberg) and Dicky Eklund (Christian Bale) from Lowell, Massachusetts, the movie takes you on the real life journey and struggles of these talented and passionate brothers. The movie starts with an HBO film crew following around the locally "famous" big brother Dicky Eklund through the streets of Lowell as they document his supposed comeback attempt. … [Read more...]
Baby’s Home…What Now? DVD Review

By Eddy Update: This giveaway is closed. Congratulations to the winners Mara and Diana. I know from personal experience that bringing a new baby home is tough on everyone. This is especially true when it is your first. Add on top of that the fact that Divina and I were the first to have a baby in our group of friends as well as the first in our immediate family. What this meant was that all the advice we would get was either a decade or more old or from people that didn't have a baby. So essentially, we were winging it...and while we have been able to negotiate many of the pitfalls of early parenthood (Babyboy still has all his fingers and toes) it would have been nice to have a lot of the questions we had answered before we brought our little bundle of joy home. The great thing about Baby's Home...What Now? Is that it is only an hour long, so it skips all the fluff that comes with most baby DVDs and books and gets right down to the facts (I think that is essential … [Read more...]
