“I M” M&M Campaign Shirt Sweepstakes

frametastic (9)

Sweepstakes Closed: Congrats to all the winners! As parents we try to make sure our sons are proud of who they are and where they come from.  Part of this is ensuring that they learn to speak Spanish as well as observe many of the holidays that Latinos' celebrate such as Three King’s Day.  This last summer M&M’s kicked off a campaign to celebrate Hispanic uniqueness and culture with their “I M” campaign.  This is great as each M&M color character has their own different personalities and traits and it is important to me to show my boys that part of life is enjoying the various things that make us different.  As part of this M&M has given out shirts to various people and celebrities that state a unique adjective that describes them.  Since I am a big music fan I have selected “I M Rockero”. In order to do our part, and to celebrate the uniqueness of our own readers, we are giving away 5 shirts! Two with “I M Futbolero” meaning I am a soccer player … [Read more...]

(Video) Kinect Nat Geo TV Review

Nat Geo TV

Similar to Kinect Sesame Street, Kinect Nat Geo TV bring a whole new interactive approach to playing games with small children.  Nat Geo TV takes actual episodes from the popular Nat geo show Nat Geo Wild TV hosted by Casey Anderson and his 800 pound grizzly bear Brutus and distributes throughout the shows fun mini games and interesting task that require the player to fully interact with the game.  Check us out taking a look at the game: Yes, you saw correctly not only are you learning educational facts about bears and some other animals but you are having a 2-way TV experience.  Our favorite part of the game has to be the games which put you in the shoes of the animal.  The Kinect will show your image and transpose a animal costume on to you body.  One of the more memorable was when I was playing as a bear and had to use my claws to eat ants and to bat down bee’s nest for honey. Another moment had me as a bear again using my claws to box away rivals until time ran … [Read more...]

(Video) Kinect Sesame Street Review

XBOX 360 Kinect Sesame Street

It seems like most video games even though they are for “kids” it seem the parents end up playing the game more than the children.  This is especially apparent when playing video games for small children.  Some of has to do with the fact that little kids sometimes want to watch what is happening on the screen without having to worry about playing the game.  Throw in the fact that the Kinect requires you to be so physical when playing game, and you can imagine how difficult it could be for kids just learning coordination to really enjoy the story. Kinect Sesame Street really solves this issue.  Rather than being a video game in the traditional sense, Kinect Sesame Street brings your child into the actual show. Kinect Sesame Street was built especially for young children focusing on:          Promoting literacy and math          Modeling scientific inquiry skills          Fostering social and emotional development Can you imagine … [Read more...]

The Mighty Morphin Power Ranger Season 1 DVD Review

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers

It’s hard to believe that Power Ranger have been in the U.S. since 1993.  I remember being so excited when the shows started,  I was a big fan of the Japanese version that would play years before that would some time show up on TV heavily subtitled.  The first season is especially dear to me since I was still at the age before I was too cool to pretend to fight and kick as Power Rangers with my friends.  Unfortunately, those careless days are long gone, but at least I can get a bit of nostalgia of those times from watching the first full season on DVD for the first time ever. Saban Brand and Shout Factory have partnered to release the 30 episode of the first season in a three DVD set on August 21, 2012. 30 episodes amount to almost 10 hours of content.  When I sat down to watch a couple of the episode I wasn’t really sure what to expect.  Honestly, it was like getting transported back to the future.  I felt like I was watching a time capsule of the early 90’s (a … [Read more...]

Kaijudo: Duel Masters episode Party

kaijudo

A couple of months ago Kaijudo premiered on Rock’s favorite channel “the hub”.  The show is based on the system of card game of the same name, which has become such a huge phenomenon in the last couple of years similar to Pokemon. The show follows the exploits of a boy named Ray who can access a parallel dimension filled with crazy creatures.  These creatures become his friends and also allow him to fight against Evil forces who want to capture and enslave his creature friends.  It is up to Ray and his two friends to become Duel Masters so that they can help same themselves and the creatures from total extinction. To help celebrate the premier of the show, Divina and I received a bunch of Kaijudo headbands that we brought to Paraguay and we had a big Kaijudo Party.  We had ice cream, wore our headbands and watched the show.  For the rest of the trip, Divina's little cousins and  our sons did not want to take off the headbands.    After watching the show, … [Read more...]

Uncle Milton/National Geographic Outdoor Explorer Toy line

Toys have so much potential to help children learn, but it is up to parent to be able to find the right fit for their child.  This is no easy task, especially with television bombarding kids with so many toys and gadgets that really have no value but are super fun.  Finding the right balance between fun and educational is not an easy task, but it is an important one for the development of a child’s growth. For some time, Rock has shown an interest in outdoor life especially bugs (like most boys).  He has a love/hate relationship with them, while they scare him sometimes he just can’t help be fascinated by them.  Obviously, at four years old there is only so much bug related activities that he can do, but I still wanted to nurture his sense of curiosity and encourage him to explore his environment.  That is why I was pleasantly surprised to find that National Geographic  had teamed up with Uncle Milton, a leader in entertaining science related toys (check out our review of … [Read more...]

(Video) Marvel Reads: Spiderman: An Origin Story App Review

spiderman app

A new Spiderman movie is set to come out this summer with a different spin on the entire story.  What better way to prepare for the debut than to brush up on the original story from Marvel.  Of course, if you are an adult it isn’t that difficult to pick up or download a version of the original comic. For children it is a bit harder relating to a story created back in the early 60s.  Thankfully, Marvel has brought the story to a generation through Spiderman: An Origin Story App.  Formatted in the same way as the Avenger Assemble! and Hulk app, iPhone/iPad users are treated to an interactive story told by Stan Lee on one of his most famous characters. Designed for all ages (not just kids) the story is brought to life with interactive games and puzzles.  Check out Rock and I having some webslinging fun: Available in French, Italian, German, Spanish and Danish, the app can be found here on iTunes for $3.99 which to me is definitely worth it considering the repeated use that … [Read more...]

(Video) Marvel Super Heroes Magazine Review & Giveaway Sweepstakes

New Marvel Super Heroes Magazine

Update this giveaway sweepstakes is closed.  Congrats to the winner Julez. We have gone super hero crazy over here.   Last week, Disney Publishing premiered Marvel Superheroes magazine.  The magazine is a starting point to expose children to the Heroes and Heroines that we grew up with. Too often, children are given the easy way out and “just watch the movie”, doing so robs them of exercising their imagination.  While I will be the first to admit that Marvel comics is far from Shakespeare, for many of us, it was these comic that sparked our love of reading. With that said, when we received a review copy of the inaugural issue, Rock was super excited.  While targeting kids aged 8-10, no boy is immune to images of Thor, Hulk and Captain America no matter what age.  Immediately, upon opening the package Rock was thumbing through the pages noting all the characters and asking questions.  As it is, I have read to him quite a bit of the magazine for bed time.  When … [Read more...]

(Video) Marvel Reads: Avengers Origins:Assemble! And Avengers Origins: Hulk App Review

avengers-origins-assemble

Update: This weekend is Free Comic day, to celebrate Disney is having a number of things going one.  1) You can pick up the Disney Comics App for free and download a couple free books or 2) Until 5/11 if you buy $20 worth of disney products at a Disney Store location, you will be able to get a coupon to download the App for free!  but you better hurry, there is only 100,000 coupon available. Personally, I feel it is never too early to get into Comic books.  The only trouble is, that for younger kids trying to follow along the story can be a bit difficult.  I have tried reading them to Rock, but it is harder than it looks.  So what does a parent do? Well thankfully, Disney/Marvel has decided to release a number of Apps in a similar vein as the Peter Pan and Beauty and The Beast Apps we have previously reviewed.  This time, we are taken into the action packed world of Marvel Superheroes.  In anticipation to the huge Release of The Avengers this coming weekend, Disney … [Read more...]
