It seems like there has been a trend of “based on a True Story” style movies that progressively become less and less believable every year.  When I heard that We bought a Zoo was a similar styled movie, I honestly had to call B.S. Who in their right mind wants to buy a zoo? Considering how many homeless dogs and cats there are in the world (cue Sarah McLachlan song and Divina sobbing in the background) there seems to be a number of good reasons why people shouldn’t take care of domestic animals not to mention wild ones. With those very poignant thoughts in my head I sat down with the family to watch We Bought a Zoo, staring Matt Damon as the widower Ben Mee and Scarlett Johansson as the head zoo keeper Kelly.  The story revolves around Ben Mee purchasing a large house with a zoo in the back year.  Ben takes on this burden with the help of his family and Kelly and tries to get the zoo back on its feet.  There are the obligatory ups and downs, including escaped animals … [Read more...]
