#CorazonBlindados the New Show on @CanalMundoFOX

CorazonBlindados

Premiering Monday, October 22nd on Mundo Fox (the new Spanish based channel from Fox) is the new cop drama Corazones Blindados.  The show follows the life and death battle of Bogota Columbia’s Metropolitan Police Officer both on duty and at home.  Similar to one of my favorite shows The Unit, you are brought into a world where these brave men and women must risk their live on a daily basis in an extremely violent environment while also trying to balance and battle in the own private lives.  Corazones Blindados stars Andrés Sandoval as Raúl Ávila and Majida Issa as his partner and possible love interest Diana Ochoa. Over the past couple of years it seems like Latin shows have garnered (deservingly so) a reputation of being comically over dramatic and sexualized with suave good-looking men with no shirts and beautiful women wearing tight clothing.  While this style is hugely popular it is refreshing to see a new show that takes a more realistic approach to drama, … [Read more...]

Let’s Play in Spanish Product Review

Lets Play in Spanish DH

It is no secret that Divina and I are big proponents of teaching children different languages.  For Rock and X, one of our biggest challenges is teaching them Spanish.  While one might think that since we both speak Spanish fluently it should be easy, I am here to tell you that it couldn’t be further from the case.  Living in an English speaking country, experts tell you the best way to teach a language to a child is to immerse them in the language when they are home.  Needless to say, this means competing with the TV, friends and the rest of the whole wide world.   Adding complications to this is that D and I met each other speaking English, and have become accustomed to speaking English to each other.  Obviously, we are still in a great position when compared to other family, my point is, that no matter what your situation is, it is never an easy task. Yet like all thing, the first step is always the hardest.  As I said before teaching children Spanish is a … [Read more...]

5 Interesting Toys We Saw at Toy Fair 2012

Box Creations Dancinghotdogs boys & Rosa

By  Eddy Similar to E3, Comic Con and other major conventions Toy Fair can be pretty overwhelming.  Because of this it is easy to fall into the trap of only seeing the “major” brands.  Yet after attending Toy Fair for the last couple of year , D and I have found that there are other great companies and toys just waiting to be discovered.  For me, it is the discovery of these “newbies” that make Toy Fair so exciting.  Not to mention the enthusiasm and passion of the people manning the booth, mainly because these people are the actual owners/inventors who truly have a stake in the success of the company. So without further ado here are 5 exciting new toys we found at toy fair: Box Creations:  We have talked about the before in our fantastic Holiday buying guide.  This year at toy fair they are rolling out a number of new creations such as a kitchen set as well as a Mac Truck.   Rock and X already has a pirate ship (picture above with Tia Rosa) and for … [Read more...]

Little Pim Fun with Languages Product Review

little-pim

By Divina Eddy and I are parents and like all parents we want the best for our child.  We are raising Babyboy to be bilingual in both Spanish and English not only because it's our culture and we want him to speak to his great grandparents but also we know per all the recent studies it will help him as he grows.  But now, knowing another language is not enough.  Experts are saying Spanish is useful but that the new language to learn is Mandarin. So I was very excited to get a review of Little Pim Fun With Languages , Mandarin edition which was recently showcased on the Today Show .   Little Pim is a foreign language learning program that focuses on children from birth to five years old.  The program comes in English, Spanish, French, Chinese, Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, Arabic, German and Russian.  The videos are perfect for Babyboy's age group! The videos stress images and repetition to the point that I was learning new words as I watched with Babyboy.  Created by Julia … [Read more...]

Dora’s Big Birthday Adventure Video Game Review

doras-big-birthday-adventure-video-game

By Divina If you have a toddler you already know Dora the Explorer celebrated her birthday on August 15th with a big birthday bash and now you and the family can join in the party fun with her new Nintendo DS game Dora's Big Birthday Adventure . The video game uses all the same voice talents of the popular show and follows the same story line as the special with Dora and Boots being stuck in Wizzle World and without your help she will miss her birthday celebration with her family.  Dora and Boots have been entertaining children for over 10 years and this game draws on everything that has made the show a total success.  Dora and Boots must use Map and their English and Spanish skills to answer questions and solve puzzles to make it home in time for the fun.  The game is bright and colorful and rated E for everyone but ideal for three to six year olds.  It's so age appropriate and the games are fun.  I loved how I could tickle animals, ride a unicorn, battle sea snakes, … [Read more...]
