Toy Story 3 Movie Review

toy-story-3_230

By Divina June 18th has come and gone and we have a new shining star of a movie from Disney Pixar.  I was so excited for this new release but also a bit cautious.   You must understand readers, I LOVE Toy Story 2 whenever I have a bad day and need a pick me up I reach for one of three movies: Toy Story 2, Singing in the Rain and Little Mermaid. So when I heard that fellow reviewers said it was better than the second I had high hopes and many anxieties. What if Disney Pixar ruined the Toy Story series for me in hopes of something more edgy, more actiony etc for the big finale, thankfully, my worries were unfounded. Though I don't think Toy Story 3 is better than Toy Story 2 (I cried a little too much though number 2 will always be my favorite) it was movie excellence. Disney Pixar has created a new kind of love story with Andy and super loyal toys Woody (Tom Hanks) Buzz, (Tim Allen), Jessie (Joan Cusack), Hamm (John Ratzenberger), Mr. Potato Head (Don Rickles) and … [Read more...]

Angels and Demons Movie Review

angels

By Eddy Let me start off by saying that I read the books and didn't watch the Da Vinci Code film.  With that said, Angels and Demons was basically paint by number thriller. While not totally disappointing me didn't have me really eager to write this review.  What has happened to America's favorite actor, Tom Hanks, the last few films I have watched from him have not been the greatest works of art.  Not even close to his hitting streak in the 90's.  For the most part he has been mailing in all his performances.  Comfortable in the knowledge that he was one of the greatest actors in his generation.  Not that I really can judge him, after toiling on Bosom Buddies then moving on to his many films in the 80's and then rising to super stardom in the 90's he deserves to do whatever he wants.  It's just I have grown accustomed to much more from Tom. The same can be said for Ron Howard, whose movies, while not Earth shattering have been for the most part … [Read more...]

Tropic Thunder Movie Review

tropic-thunder

By Eddy Headlined by an all star cast of Ben Stiller, Robert Downey Jr, Jack Black, Tom Cruise, and supported by Matthew McConaughey, Nick Nolte as well as a throng of guest appearances, Tropic Thunder was one of the larger releases this summer.  The movie profits were especially buoyed by Robert Downey's heroic turn in "Iron Man" earlier in the year. For the most part I found it an enjoyable experience, and while I didn't burst a lung laughing out loud, I was entertained, and found the one liners spouted by each of the actors as the best part of the movie.  Most outstanding were the performances of Tom Cruise as a foul mouthed studio boss and Robert Downey Jr.  as an  award winning dramatic actor who in order to maintain his method acting style undergoes plastic surgery to truly become his character.  While most people enjoyed the movie, there was a significant amount of press due to the films treatment of the mentally retarded.  Personally, I could see where … [Read more...]
