For Dads: A Dolphin’s Tale #BlurayElite Review #SP

Dolphins tale

As a member of Warner Home Video super exclusive Blu-Ray Elite team, I get access to some of the greatest movies ever made. My mission is to give you how these movies fit in the life of a Dad. Movie: A Dolphin’s Tale Based on the true story of Winter, an injured dolphin is saved by a boy and which in turn ultimately saves the Animal Hospital that nursed her to heath as well as touch the lives of the families that saved her.  While there are some differences between the movie and in real life, after consulting Wikipedia I found that the differences are pretty negligible, which is pretty rare.  In most cases, it seems like film studios tend to sugar up the stories to make them more interesting to audiences.  Ultimately, it ends up that the story is so distorted that other than the title they have nothing in relation to the actual real life stories that spawned the film.  It is pretty crazy that A Dolphin’s Tale didn’t need major modification considering all the things … [Read more...]

For Dads: Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows #BlurayElite Review #SP

As a member of Warner Home Video super exclusive Blu-Ray Elite team, I get access to some of the greatest movies ever made. My mission is to give you how these movies fit in the life of a Dad. Movie: Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows For our review of the movie go here: http://www.dancinghotdogs.com/2011/12/sherlock-holmes-a-game-of-shadows-movie-review/ Dad Factor: medium/high.  If you try and don’t think to hard when you watch this movie, what you get is a tried and true summer action flick.  Nothing spectacular or particularly new considering the first movie, but with enough big explosions and other things to keep the home theater of your fully engaged.  In addition, it brings to a close some of the loose ends from the first movie.  Kid Factor: Medium.  Older kids will enjoy the explosions and actions, though they will have absolutely no idea who Sherlock Holmes is. Date Factor: Low.   Unless she enjoys action movies (if she does then she’s a keeper!) this … [Read more...]

For Dads:Journey 2: The Mysterious Island #BlurayElite Review #SP

journey 2

As a member of Warner Home Video super exclusive Blu-Ray Elite team, I get access to some of the greatest movies ever made. My mission is to give you how these movies fit in the life of a Dad. Movie: Journey 2: the Mysterious Island Finally a kids movie, though not an obvious classic this is one of those wonderful time wasters that grab kids attention and doesn't let it go for almost 2 hours.  A sequel to Journey to the Center of the Earth, the movie exchanges Brendan Fraser for the The Rock and follow the adventures of the Andersons as they try to find the Mysterious Island depicted in books such as Treasure Island and Gulliver’s Travels. In my mind ,this is the spiritual successor to Honey I Shrunk the Kids, as the inhabitants of the island are all reversed in size, therefore big animals are small and small animals are enormous leading to dinosaur like insects and reptiles.  Oh yeah, there is definitely a bee flying scene as well. Dad Factor: medium/low: While there is … [Read more...]

For Dads: Crazy Stupid Love #BlurayElite Review #SP

crazy stupid love dh

As a member of Warner Home Video super exclusive Blu-Ray Elite team, I get access to some of the greatest movies ever made. My mission is to give you how these movies fit in the life of a Dad. Movie: Crazy Stupid Love I know you have been waiting for a great movie, and I finally got one.  Starring Steve Carrell, Ryan Gosling, Julian Moore and Emma Stone, this movie takes up through the tumultuous life of Cal Weaver as he gets divorced but ultimately finds the love he truly deserves and needs in the end.  Its kind of like How Stella Got her Groove Back for white males. Dad Factor: medium/high.  I have a slight MILF crush on Julian Moore and Emma Stone has been climbing up the ranking of Hollywood cuties in my mind.  It doesn’t hurt that I feel both have fun and outgoing personalities (As you can tell with Divina, I really like that).  Through in the fact that for a Steve Carrell and Ryan Gosling are probably among the top 3 leading men that I can tolerate in a Romantic … [Read more...]

Horrible Bosses

As a member of Warner Home Video super exclusive Blu-Ray Elite team, I get access to some of the greatest movies ever made. My mission is to give you how these movies fit in the life of a Dad. Movie: Horrible Bosses Who wouldn’t want to kill an awful boss.  Horrible Bosses is an underrated comedy, while not ridiculously inventive or even great for that matter there is enough meat on the bones of this movie that I find the movie pretty re-watchable.  With outlandish performances from Kevin Spacey, Jennifer Aniston and Colin Farrell the movie has you rooting for our heroes to get their revenge. Dad Factor: High.  This movie was made for adults to watch.  This is a definite only for the scene with Jennifer Aniston as a inappropriate dentist.  Add in Colin Farrell with his Bill Murray from Kingpin style hair and tiger robes are totally unforgettable. Kid Factor: Not until they are a bit older (meaning when they are at least teenagers) and even that is a bit of … [Read more...]

Gone with the Wind DH

As a member of Warner Home Video super exclusive Blu Ray Elite team, I get access to some of the greatest movies ever made. My mission is to give you how these movies fit in the life of a Dad. Movie: Gone With the Wind It may be weird to say but this was the first time I ever watched Gone With the Wind.  It seems like since the film is so ingrained in our culture I should have seen it at some point in the past 30 years of my existence.  One thing that might have contributed to that is the fact that the movie is almost 4 hours long.  If you are keeping track, Gone With the Wind is the #4 movie in the AFI top 100. Taking place a little before the civil war in the US the movie follows the life and loves of Scarlet O’Hara as war breaks out between the states, and her life in the south during these difficult times. In addition, it is an interesting glimpse of family life and drama in the south.  Dad Factor: Low.  While a classic movie, most Dad’s are not going to find … [Read more...]

For Dads: Inception #Bluray Elite Review

Inception_Blu-Ray

As a member of Warner Home Video super exclusive Blu Ray Elite team I get access to some of the greatest movies ever made. My mission is to tell you how these movies fit in the life of a Dad. Movie: Inception It's kind of funny that I recieved Inception along with The Matrix as my first taste of the Warner Home Video Blu Ray Elite progam.  Both movie kind of blow your mind away, this time Inception creates the ultimate heist movie but instead of stealing money from banks they are stealing ideas in dreams.  The concept is great but I think the execution is even better thanks to the genius of Christopher Nolan, when you add in the Batman movies and his earlier work like Memento you realize he has fashioned quite an impressive career for himself.  Dad Factor: High.  Great movie, though this is no mindless movie, be ready to put your thinking cap on...and ask yourself how deep you would go to see your own kids again? Kid Factor: Low. Way too high level thinking for the … [Read more...]
