Sesame Street: Ready, Set, Grover! Wii Video Game Review and Giveaway

Sesame Street Ready Set Glover games

Update: this giveaway is closed, congrats to Becca! By Divina I love it when Sesame Street contacts the Dancing Hotdogs family for any kind of review because I KNOW it’s going to be an educational good time and Sesame Street and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment’s latest Nintendo Wii and DS game Sesame Street: Ready, Set Grover! Does not disappoint. I don’t know if you watch as much Sesame Workshop as Big Bro and I do but they have an initiative called “Healthy Habits for Life” that encourages parents/caregivers and their kids to start healthy habits early and create a foundation for a lifetime of healthy living.  The new game reinforces that initiative by showing kids they can play BUT stay active while having fun. The game is so cute! Through games and adventures with Elmo and Abby the game players practice physical activity, good nutrition, personal hygiene, and the importance of rest and relaxation.   Don’t you just love it! Playtime with a great … [Read more...]

Cars 2 The Video Game Review

Cars-2-Video-Game

By Eddy Wow this game surprised me.   I actually thought it was better than the movie itself.  In its simplest terms the game is Mario Kart with cooler weapons.  Just let that sink in!  Yet even being closely linked to the famous racing series doesn’t mean that it is all it has to offer.  In addition to the combat (kart) style racing the game also feature a number of interesting modes such as hunting down enemy cars through a large arena or playing capture the flag. The plot of the game strays away from the movie and sticks you in the role of a spy from C.H.R.O.M.E (the spy agency in the film) you start out slow building your spy car chops in training missions, but as you progress through the game, the challenges become more dangerous as well as more exciting. There is a large roster of playable character including all the stars of the film.  The game also includes most of the original voices of the characters as well (except for Lightning and Finn … [Read more...]

Raving Rabbids: Travel in Time Video Game Review

raving-rabbits

By Eddy I always have been a fan of the Rabbid series mainly just because they tend to staddle the line between kid and adult fun.  What I mean is that for the most part the Rabbid series of mini games always had a feel that it wasn't just for little kids.  Rabbids in Time is no different.  I am not going to pretend that there is a coherent story for this game; basically the Rabbids are able to travel in time, and possibly change the past and the future.  Therefore, we see them in mini games ranging from the prehistoric era all the way to Roman times through to ancient Egypt and such.  The game takes place within a museum, each wing of the museum (there are five of them) contains a series of minigames.  The wings are Flyarium (flying games), shootarium (shooting games), bouncearium (bouncing and platforming games), hookarium (fishing games)  and Runarium (running games).  There are 23 mini games in total.  … [Read more...]

Disney Channel All-Star Party Wii Game Review

vjba5ry

By Eddy When I saw the cover of this game I knew that it was geared specifically towards a certain set of people and I was quite certain that I was not included in that set.  With Hannah Montana, the Jonas Brothers, Selena Gomez et al, the game was obviously for tweens.  My best hope, was that I would be entertained by the mini games since the names of the characters had no meaning to me (well that is a bit of a lie, I am familiar with a good amount of the Disney Channel line up to D's chagrin, but just not the ones featured with the exception of Phineas and Ferb). Disney Channel All Star Party is similar to the style of Nintendo's Mario party for the Wii.  Players pick their character and play out the game on a game board like setting.  7 Disney Channel shows are featured in the game: Phineas and Ferb, Jonas L.A., Sonny with a Chance, Wizards of Waverly Place, Hannah Montana, The Suite Life of Zach & Cody and Camp Rock.  Players are the able to select and play as … [Read more...]

Mater’s Tall Tales Video Game Review

disney-cars-toon-maters-tall-tales-exclusively-for-wii

By Eddy When D and I first saw Cars I wasn't particularly impressed.  With such a spectacular line up of films to have to live up to including the first two Toy Story's, I was left pretty underwhelmed leaving the movie theater.  I especially didn't really connect with the Mater character played by Larry the Cable Guy (I was never big fan of his comedy).  Yet in the years to follow after its release, the movie has really grown on me; to the point that I now appreciate its place in the Pixar cannon.  Along with that with the advent of Mater's Tall Tales show I have learned to appreciate Mater as well. Mater's Tall Tales are animated shorts which feature Mater as he tells his friends the crazy things he has done. Also starring in the short films are all the characters from the original Cars films including most notably lightning McQueen.  To commemorate the completion of two seasons and the its popularity, Disney released a video game for the Nintendo Wii allowing you to … [Read more...]

By Divina Update: This giveaway is closed. Congrats to Marysa the winner. As a follow up to the NYC Sesame Workshop event, Babyboy and I got a chance to review the new Sesame Street: Cookie's Counting Carnival Wii Game.  The game is all about your kids improving their math skills all while joining Cookie Monster and Big Bird at a fun-filled carnival. The game play is steeped in math skills that include number identification, counting, shapes and pattern recognition. SEGA: Captain America and Thor Video Games

thor

By Eddy NY Comic Con has come and gone, and we are left to pick up all the pieces.   Yet I am pretty sure that the true effect of the "Con" won't be felt until closer to the holidays when all the video games, movies and books that were showcased finally hit the market. I am hoping to shed a bit of light on some of the many things that I had the chance to preview at the Javitz center. One of the more exclusive views I got was of the Captain America and Thor video games scheduled to arrive from SEGA .  First with Thor, while the game isn't totally finished certain lucky individuals were invited to view an exclusive screening of video from the game hosted by one of the game creators.  While there wasn't much of actual game footage we did get a number of small clips as well view concept art for the game.  From what I saw and heard the whole concept of the game was to let the player really feel as if they were the God of Thunder...yes I know we hear this with … [Read more...]

Club Penguin Game Day Video Game Review

club-penguin-game-day-wii

By Divina For a mother of a toddler who doesn't know how to play video games...I am very familiar with the wildly successful Club Penguin virtual worlds and DS games.  My youngest sister and godson love love love the games and now after reviewing the Club Penguin Game Day Wii game, I know the perfect holiday gift for them. Club Penguin Game Day! Takes the best of the virtual worlds and DS games and makes a Wii game that includes 12 winter wonderland inspired games like snow ball fights, Puffle Paddle, Sumo Smash and other really fun mini games. The fun starts when players create a personalized penguin and team that will help them conquer the most territories in this six zone island. The mini games were so fun and even though there are only 12 games every time you play them something changes making the replay value awesome.   I love the Sumo Smash game which has me knocking other players off a block of ice.  It takes a little finesse but has me laughing every time.  … [Read more...]

Attack of The Movie 3D Video Game Review

attackofthemovies3d

By Eddy Designed as the first 3D shooter for the Wii Console, Majesco Entertainment's Attack of the Movie 3D brings you into the very common movie scenarios (alien invasion, Robot uprising , underwater monster, zombie attack), you as the hero of the game must shoot them all. As most rail shooters go, this is one of the most family friendly (considering the other ones I have seen are horror related and definitely not for kids).  By not being too cute or being too violent the games straddle the line well between being a game for kids and adults. Stocked with four of the blue and red style 3d glasses it allows for everyone to join in on the fun.  Also, there are varying paths in each seen so you may not end up going to same way each time you play the game, which adds to the replay value. Attack of the Movie 3D does not reinvent the wheel in terms of game play.  All the usual power ups are there including various gun option and the ubiquitous life power ups. Ammo is not … [Read more...]
