(Video) Kinect Sesame Street Review

XBOX 360 Kinect Sesame Street

It seems like most video games even though they are for “kids” it seem the parents end up playing the game more than the children.  This is especially apparent when playing video games for small children.  Some of has to do with the fact that little kids sometimes want to watch what is happening on the screen without having to worry about playing the game.  Throw in the fact that the Kinect requires you to be so physical when playing game, and you can imagine how difficult it could be for kids just learning coordination to really enjoy the story. Kinect Sesame Street really solves this issue.  Rather than being a video game in the traditional sense, Kinect Sesame Street brings your child into the actual show. Kinect Sesame Street was built especially for young children focusing on:          Promoting literacy and math          Modeling scientific inquiry skills          Fostering social and emotional development Can you imagine … [Read more...]

Let’s Play in Spanish Product Review

Lets Play in Spanish DH

It is no secret that Divina and I are big proponents of teaching children different languages.  For Rock and X, one of our biggest challenges is teaching them Spanish.  While one might think that since we both speak Spanish fluently it should be easy, I am here to tell you that it couldn’t be further from the case.  Living in an English speaking country, experts tell you the best way to teach a language to a child is to immerse them in the language when they are home.  Needless to say, this means competing with the TV, friends and the rest of the whole wide world.   Adding complications to this is that D and I met each other speaking English, and have become accustomed to speaking English to each other.  Obviously, we are still in a great position when compared to other family, my point is, that no matter what your situation is, it is never an easy task. Yet like all thing, the first step is always the hardest.  As I said before teaching children Spanish is a … [Read more...]

Transitions Optical and eyedidntknowthat.com

Eddy and I both were born with less than perfect vision and believe me I know how difficult it was trying to learn when you couldn’t see the teacher or the board very well, it is not a great feeling.  One of my biggest worry is that Rock and X will have vision troubles as well.  Considering that 1 in 4 children have vision issues that impair their ability to learn properly, I want to be hyper vigilant to catch any issues as soon as possible…the road to Harvard or Yale starts early at the Dancing Hotdogs household.  The only problem for me as a parent, is what resources out there are available to help me do this.  Fortunately, Transitions Optical, a lense manufacturer of glasses lenses that darken when they are out in the sun (Eddy actually used to have a pair) has created a site specifically designed to educate children, parents and teachers on healthy vision and how to take care of your eyes. When I let Rock play on the website (www.eyedidntknowthat.info) , he … [Read more...]

(Video) Learn Chinese: Toy Story 3 App Review

Learn Chinese Toy Story

One of my strongest wishes as a parent is to have my sons learn a different language.  I am not saying Spanish (even though it is tough enough as it trying to teach it to Rock and X).  Ideally the language they would learn would be Chinese (more specifically Mandarin, not to be confused with Cantonese).  I can already see the currents changing from the traditional languages taught at school (French and Spanish) to more exotic languages, and at the forefront in Chinese.  I wish we could put in the effort that everyone else in China is putting toward learning English.  Right now, all state employees younger than 40 are required to know 1,000 English phrases and all children start learning English in kindergarten.  It is about time we start catching up! The thing is neither D nor I can speak the language.  So we are forced to use the other tools at our disposal. Fortunately, we had the opportunity to try out a new app from Disney, Learn Chinese: Toy Story 3.  This app basically … [Read more...]

Disney Junior DH

If you have children below the age of 7, then you are familiar with Disney Junior. Up until today , Disney Junior was a block of programming targeting younger children with shows that would play in the morning and mid afternoon. Starting today, this block will be expended to an entire channel devoted to younger Disney fans. Among the many new shows to premier on the channel will be Doc McStuffins and Quiet Is…This past week we received a special preview of these shows and they were a big hit in the Dancing Hotdogs household. Doc McStuffins is already being requested by Rock. The show centers on a young girl, who uses the lessons and skills she learns from her mother (a doctor) to help and heal toys and stuffed animals. The Three Wise Men are on their way- it’s time to Celebrate! Tres Reyes Twitter Party

Mibestbuy DH

One of the major holiday's in Hispanic culture is Three Kings Day (no not the movie with Marky Mark and George Clooney).  Unfortunately, for the past couple of years D and I haven't really been keeping up with observing the holiday.  It is much easier when you are a kid and getting presents add in the fact add in that Rock usually got enough presents to last a couple of Christmases you can understand why we decided to hold off.   Yet this past year the date (1/6/11) took on specially significance to our family.  That was the birthday of our second boy, X.  So after many years,  Three Kings Day has returned to being a day of meaning and celebration for Divina and I.  We couldn't have asked for a better present last year to kick off our Three Kings Day revival.  But beyond that the day means so much more, as a day to reflect and be thankful for all the gifts we have been given. Now that you know what Three Kings Day means to us, it is time to let us know what it means to … [Read more...]

My greatest NEW adventure: Stay at Home Mami

Rock and X

By Divina I am so excited to be typing up this post!  You read correctly, as of September 12th, I will be a Stay at Home Mami to my two beautiful sons Rock and X. Every mom has to make that fateful decision. Can I afford to stay home? Do I even want to stay home? Do I want to work from home? I have been an “out of home” full time working Mami for the past three years and it has been exhausting.  I was always running between work deadlines, daycare pickups/drop offs, laundry, dinners blogging and everything else just went to the way side. I loved having the extra income when it was just Rock but when X came along there was not that much extra left over after the cost of daycare for a toddler and a baby. But the cost of daycare for two AND preschool tuition!   My entire pay check plus some of Eddy’s would be going to have some strangers raise our children.  If you have met me, you … [Read more...]
